Wisdom Teeth

Featured Replies

I had my wisdom teeth taken out when I was in my mid 20's and had been married a year . My wife stopped at a pharmacy in Ft Thomas on the way home to have my pain prescription filled . Somehow I got out of the car and she found me wandering down SFt Thomas Ave about 2 blocks away from the pharmacy still under the effects of the nitrous oxide that was used to put me under . Three days later my mother phoned and told me that I had called her the day of the procedure and complained that my young bride would not ,well how can I put it , would not help soothe my pain . Don't remember anything from that conversation and of course my mother would bring it up at the most inopportune times in the years to come.:D

That is hysterical!

I don't have them and won't get them.

Apparently it's a lucky thing I got from my Mom and her Mom who never had them either.

I had my wisdom teeth (All 4, impacted) removed this summer, a week before the fall semester started. It looked like I was walking around with a tennis ball in each cheek. Mine bled horribly for two days and my jaws were literally sore for a month. It was the most horrible experience of my life.

I had all 4 removed along time ago by the one of the best looking oral surgeons in the world...HOWEVER that was the only good thing about it! I got a dry socket in one. For over two weeks, I had to go back every fews days so they could pack it with gauze soaked in HORRIBLE medicine. It was one of the most miserable experiences EVER!!

Also, my Mom made me go in the drug store will she was getting script filled. I was so out of it. I was drooling and blood coming out of my mouth...had no idea what was going on!

I think we could use a little more time in recovery before they send us home. I picked up my best friend after his and the attendents were all laughing because he was sitting up in bed and crowing like a chicken.

When I picked up my sister in law, she crawled down the steps leading to parking lot on all fours.

That must be some really good stuff! I wonder if the nurses video tape the really good ones.

That's funny because when I got the gas for a wisdom, I had my sone with me. When I woke up he took me home. His comment was "Dad, you're pretty funny when you're high!"

To bad I didn't know about nitro at that time!! :irked::lol::lol::lol:

I am almost 33 and still have all 4 of mine.

Nice!

I applied a bag of frozen peas to ease the pain and swelling..... wait, that might have been another procedure......

I'm with ya on that one! I'm glad I don't have to worry about them.

My name is Dr. Philmore Payne and I take out wisdom teeth everyday.:D Extracting wisdom teeth is like most surguries, you are going to have pain afterwards. My recommendations are to take 800mg ibuprophen before the numbness wears off to help reduce the inflammation. When the anesthetic wears off the pain is usually not as strong although it is still painfull. You can also take the prescribed narcotic. I suggest taking both the ibuprophen and the narcotic (staggering the dose times). You would be suprised at how well the ibuprophen works.

Also, rinse out with warm salt water before bed (don't swish). No smoking, no push ups, sit ups, bending over or lifting more than 15 lbs for the next 3-5 days. You want to protect those extraction sites from the dreaded......DRY SOCKET :fire: (you think you have pain now!)

You cannot eliminated the discomfort completely, but by protecting the surgury sites and following these recommendations you can help speed up the healing process. :thumb:
