February 1, 200818 yr I'm a high school student and I just had my wisdom teeth taken out today. About 30 minutes after the surgery I had the worst pain in the world for 3 straight hours. I had all 4 removed. My whole face hurt. I had a headache. I was bleeding profusely and the pain medication did not help at all. I was drooling on my self due to the gauzes in my mouth and you can't spit because you can get a dry socket from that. You don't want to swallow all of that nasty blood. My face feels like Mike Tyson threw a couple punches at it and I feel like I have strep throat. I feel 100 times better than I did this morning. I was just wondering if any of you all had your wisdom teeth out and thought that its one of the top 5 worst experiences pain wise of your life. I have been hit by a line drive golf ball while on vacation right in the eye socket, broken bones, and had horrible lacerations but none of them match up with what I went through earlier today. Shewee.
February 1, 200818 yr Don't worry, it will probably feel worse in the morning. I had mine taken out two years ago and my best advice is to load up on the pain pills and take it easy. :thumb:
February 1, 200818 yr I had mine out in November. All I can tell you is make sure you take advantage of every last percocet or vicodin or whatever glorious medication you were prescribed. Oh and the morning after is the worst part so prepare yourself, but tomorrow afternoon you'll start feeling better.

I got them out a 9 this morning and it was horrible for like 3 hours after. Your tellin me tomorrows gonna be worse?
February 1, 200818 yr Are you sure? I got them out a 9 this morning and it was horrible for like 3 hours after. Your tellin me tomorrows gonna be worse? Hah unfortunately yes I am. I got mine out at about 8 in the morning so the time is about the same. It's just that when your sleepin (which won't be good sleep) you can't be cautious of your mouth like you can when you're awake. So you'll be moving around and the stitches will be pulled on and you'll just be a lot more sore. And my pillow was spotted all over with blood too. But trust me tomorrow afternoon it'll get better.
February 1, 200818 yr I say take all the pain meds you can and stick to eating apple sauce for a few days, and use proper grammer and punctuation
February 1, 200818 yr Are you sure? I got them out a 9 this morning and it was horrible for like 3 hours after. Your tellin me tomorrows gonna be worse? Well maybe not. I had mine taken out and they did hurt for the first day, and I continued the pain medication every 6 hours for that day and the next, like I was prescribed and I didn't have a problem. Even if your not hurting, it is better for the first 2 days to take the medicine. If you wait until it starts hurting really bad, it's hard to stop the pain. (Prevention of pain is the key!!!)
February 1, 200818 yr I had mine taken out just over a year ago. I only had three, but I was up moving around with no pain a couple hours later that same day. I experienced no problems with it at all.
February 1, 200818 yr I had mine taken out just over a year ago. I only had three, but I was up moving around with no pain a couple hours later that same day. I experienced no problems with it at all. Same here. I think I was one of the lucky ones. I got my wisdom teeth removed one afternoon when I was in high school and I was at the football game later that night. Granted, I was swollen and bruised, but the pain was very tolerable. My college roommate on the other hand had a terrible time when she had hers removed. I guess everybody reacts differently.
February 1, 200818 yr Many, many years ago I had all 4 wisdom teeth cut out. The first night wasn't so great; a couple of Darvon (that was the commonly prescribed pain medicine at the time) pretty much did the trick. I was fine the next day; even went swimming at the public pool. Caught some heck from my mom over that one (you have four holes in your mouth and you're swimming around in other people's germs and urine, just what are you thinking); but I never even needed an aspirin after the first night. I always chalked it up to being a tough guy...
February 1, 200818 yr Be really careful about how much medication you take. If you loose track of your schedule and take them too close together, you may see something like I did when I had my wisdom teeth removed. It looked like this, and I ain't kiddin'.
February 1, 200818 yr Mine went very well. Do take the pain meds though, do not attempt to be the tough guy. Only strange part was that I chose not to be put under for the surgery. Took several dozen shots of novocaine in the mouth which was not fun, but I felt much better later in the day and recovered faster from not having that horrible groggy feeling of anesthesia. I have to admit, the last shot of novocaine that he gave me was through the hard palette/roof of my mouth and I felt like the needle was going to come out of the top of my head. It was very painful and the doc said, "that one is always the worst." Was sort funny being awake during things and the doc was great, although the smell of burning bone in the air as he was sawing into my jawbone to remove my two impacted lowers was somewhat strange. The other weird thing was I was so numb that I thought he started on my upper right when he really started on my upper left tooth. He was wrapping things up and I said, doc did you forget the one in the upper left? He said, "nope, that was the first one I yanked out" and held out his hand with all four teeth in his palm.
February 1, 200818 yr Mine the doctors made it actually not bad at all. I remember my mother leaving the room after the gave me the good stuff (gas). The next thing I remember is getting out of my car in my garage. I had it done in Lexington and live in Maysville. I slept from about 10:30 when I got home until 11 that night. Then I was hingary so I ate macarroni and cheese. They put this thing in the hole to help with the bleeding and swelling that tasted VERY bitter. But I was eating the night I had it done. Then 2 days later I went up to Northern Kentucky for 3 days. Just keep taking some of the medication they perscribed to you, and it will eventually lessen. I kept gause (sp?) in the holes at all times and switched them every 2 hours or so that day. I also kept an ice pack on each cheek. Hang in there.
February 1, 200818 yr I had mine taken out during spring break of my sophomore year, I did great with it, and was eating the next afternoon. My brother and sister both had very negative reactions to the anesthesia (sp?)
February 1, 200818 yr Mine almost killed me. My head swelled up like a basketball--giant head on a little body is not a pretty sight! Then I had a hole open up from my sinus cavity to my mouth. It was the absolute worst taste in the world for about a week and a half. I had to take massive doses of antibiotics, which messed my stomach all up. All in all, it was a horrible experience. I hope yours is much better!
