I don't have a dog in the fight, but anyone that says Tate Cox not playing in this game doesn't make a difference for June Buchanan is in denial, imo. He's one of the best shooters in the state.

 

My opinion is he is the best player on that team. But after hearing all the bragging coming out Pippa Passes, predictions of 20 point blowouts and that it is a given that JBS will win the 14th. It is nice for everyone to recognize there are other teams in the 14th. On any given night anyone can win. There are no sure things. I think the 14th is up for grabs.

Hazard came out with a great game plan and perfected it. JBS really showed how much Cox means to them. Hazard's D was outstanding. Campbell done a great job on Clark Stepp and Whitaker done a great job on Clint Stepp. Jones and Warren dominated inside all night long. Kidd, Marting, and Lewis also gave Hazard great minutes in leading to this win. My only complaint is that I think Hazard may have slowed it down just a tad too early. Almost let JBS back in it. Congrats to Hazard and good luck in the state.

The Warren kid would have made a difference in the first game if he had played with Hazard a little more also. I saw Campbell take a bad spill testerday and suffer back spasms all evening yesterday. Hazard had thier issues also. imo

I didn't know Campbell wasn't 100%. Indeed, he is a valuable part of Hazard's team. And I agree, Warren makes them a better team.

As I have stated, there's not much difference in these two when both are 100%. It will be very interesting how things shake out in the tie breaker game in late February.

I knew that June Buchanan had their work cut out with Hazard without Tate Cox. I'm assuming he didn't play. They only won by 5 in the Wymt tournament with Cox.

 

Yes--And Hazard has another player eligible now that wasn't eligible during WYMT--And I hear they will have yet another eligible in a few days.

Not coach bashing here, but does anyone believe that if JBS had a different/not related to the boys coach, that this team would be much better?

We need to stay on topic of this game and not leave the path.

This was a great game, Tate not playing hurt JBS because they could double Clark all night long and give help when they couldn't in the WYMT, because he is such a good shooter, penatrator, and passer, when he is on the floor it makes everyone else better. Clark would not of had to force so much if he was in there. The addition of Warren "The garbage man", was great for Hazard, he runs the floor well and has great hands and can score when he gets the ball under the basket. Whitaker is a great guard and can handle the ball, he is a true point guard and can score too. He was trying to dribble a little too much on the press towards the end of the game, but the biggest shot in the game was the 3 ball that Whitaker hit with a little over 2 minutes to go right in the middle of a big JBS run, everyone felt the momentum shifting and it was getting ready to turn into a real close game. I think JBS had cut it too 5 and was really picking up the pressure, when he hit this deep 3 in the corner that pushed it back up to 8. These 2 teams I'm sure will meet again in a month or so and I hope that everyone is healthy on both teams so there won't be any excuses for either team and they can leave it all out on the floor. Heck of a game guys, good luck to the Dogs in Richmond, make the 14th proud.

Thanks for your kind words, Master. I feel the great game plan our coaches developed and our team implemented to perfection speaks well of our young men playing team ball. Granted, JBS is a really good team, but today simply was not their day and the dogs prevailed. I feel we will make a good show in the All A, as we are playing well and seem to play to the level of our competiton, when needed.

 

The All A is going to be a really good tournament this year with many examples of talented teams. Hopefully, Hazard can pull it out as they have done in the past and bring home the big trophy.

 

Remember, it's not the size of the dog in the fight... it's the size of the fight in the dog!

Big win for Hazard. Repeat of last season, I would not be suprised to see this game agian in the regional tourney.

These teams seem to be pretty evenly matched.
