I don't think even Holmes knew how good this team would be. The Johnson brothers transferred late summer last year... And they lost 70% of their scoring from the season prior. When the schedule was made, I'm sure these were factors.

 

This is a very speculative post on my part. I don't have any info on why the out of conference schedule was so weak. However, eventually they will play some of the top teams in the state this season ;-)

I'm not so sure about that. I think this team has a future high level D1 player and Henderson will either play at NKU or a D1 school.

Coach Henley deserves a lot of positive press. The Dawgs can relax and take it easy with the Raiders coming to Covington next. I certainly pull for Holmes every game except when they play the Union boys.

I think Ricardo Johnson will play at an upper level D1 school. I think Henderson is better than he was last year and the fact that they guard and listen to the coaches will make them awfully tough to beat come tourney time.

I think the past problems have made it hard for them to get invited to big out of town tournaments. I have no proof or inside info. Just a hunch.

I think the administration may feel its tough to travel with the past problems but with that being said lets hope this years team and future years teams to come can change that outlook because it is a shame for this bunch of kids who seem to be a great group to have not been invited or allowed to accept invitations to play in more prestigous events because of past transgressions of former teams.

I agree 100% but it probably has been a big factor. It may hurt them come March to have not played those teams too.

Not a bold statement if you know this young man. I believe this is the best Holmes team in the past 3 years. Sure Hill, Rice, & Jefferson were all very, very talented. Unfortunately they did not take a liking to being coached on how to play the game as a team and/or work hard on both ends of the court. You can have a talented team, if they are not focused as one they begin to fail. The current team works hard off the court and on the court. This is allowing for their success. As far as coaching, David Henley is one of the best, not only as a coach but most importantly as a person.

Ah yes, remember those days well. Had to get there very early for the JV game if you wanted to get a seat for the Varsity. And if you were lucky to get one next to the little windows you could open in the upper deck, that was sweet. Remember the year Doug Schloemer hit the controversial shot against Newport to put them in Louisville? Of course back then we called them "bulldogs". They were pretty good prior to '75 as well. Class of 1975 myself. Sorry to ramble on..

 

Yes, we were the Bulldog's alright! I guess the name has changed to "Dawg's"! I'm still am an alumni and proud of it.

They also were very good 79-80. Lost in the state semi's in 1980 with Dicky Beal.

We lived out of state at the time, however we heard Dicky Beal was good. I can still hear Reynold's Flynn announce Beal's name. :thumb:

That is all fine and good, but a whole lot of the guys that go high DI are contacted by some schools by this point(sophomore year) I believe. Someone correct me if I'm wrong...

Point being, there are schools contacting him.!
