If the federal government has a database on all weapons and who owns them I don't see the problem with fully automatics.

 

Otherwise I don't like the idea of the government having access to that sort of information.

I have no problem with responsible Gun ownership. I believe in waiting periods, and atleast some sort of control over who gets them.

 

Do I think that Joe-Blow Citizen should have access to a Mac-10 or Oozie, no I do not.

I didn't select one b/c I'm torn on the issue. I'm one of the most liberal people I know but I have absolutely no problem with guns provided some controls are in place.

3. If you have been convicted of a felony then you waive your right to bear arms.

4. Background checks should be mandatory and the waiting period. Mental Illness should go on the background check too.

5. People who are not US citizens should have to get a license to buy a gun that would include the background check. (30+ Virginia Tech students might still be alive if this was the law).

 

I own guns mainly for collecting and target shooting. If licensed suddenly became mandatory then I'd get a license. I got my license to drive a car and fly a plane so I have no problem with gun licensing.

I understand what you are saying, however I prefer to leave that aspect as it is.

The right of the people to keep and bear arms is the only true Check and Balance a population has on a government, is the threat of revolt. Most of the countries that are involved in genocide, or unfair government are those who either have no right to be armed or have no means to do so. The issue is much bigger than protecting yourself from a robber, it is protecting your freedoms and country from itself. Our country would not exist if it were not for the threat of revolt.

I agree with your points and would only add that as to Morehead's point no. 2, its a gray line as to what is a non sporting weapon as I'm not sure what "sport" is. I have an M-1 carbine that I don't hunt with but love to target shoot and plink with. I consider target shooting a sport, but others may not. I think its legal to take any center fire rifle deer hunting, so just about any weapon that people consider to be an assault weapon is a legit deering hunting rifle, isn't it? I'm not sure about that, but I think I'm right.

Pretty extensive back ground search and pretty expensive to get from what I know, although I've never tried to get one. Anyone have the specifics?

In all seriousness I think that the only thing, as far as rifle rounds are concerned, that would not be useful for that sort of thing would be the 5.56 (.223) round of the AR and smaller, however if you are varminting then the .223 or a .22 is probably the best thing.

I know it is expensive and has to be renewed yearly. It requires tons of red tape and explaining why you want/need it. That is all I know, other than the fact that any equipment or parts that could make something semi-automatic into a full auto also require the same license.

 

So if I have an AR-15 or an M-4 I can't just fiddle with it and make it fully automatic without the right parts.

Law abiding citizens have the right to own one. Simple as that.

 

:thumb:Absolutely correct. I am a 100% supportive of our 2nd Amendment rights. (Yes, we have right to own firearms!) I also am a member and support the NRA and would urge others that believe that we have the God given right as law abiding citizens to own any firearm that we wish to join this group before all of our rights (in all areas) are gone. IMO the NRA is one of if not the most powerful voice for all of us that we have today amoungst all of the "political do-gooder's" :rolleyes:that think they should determine what is o.k.for Law Abiding Citizens when in comes to this subject.

^ Gun Control imo represents a complete "Goverment Controlled Society" which is also imo what some of our politicians want. Does that remind anyone of anything? Can you say "Communism"?

^ There are plenty of Gun Control Laws on the books right now that are not being enforced, we don't need anymore gun laws - we need to enforce the ones we already have.

^ "If guns are outlawed then only outlaws will have guns" - A person wanting a gun is not going to go through the proper channels to get one, they can go black market anywhere, anytime to purchase anything they want.

^ Criminals, Black Market operators, Theives, Drug dealers, Rapist and the like are some of the biggest supporters of Gun Control and Gun Bans. That makes their job much easier.

All firearms should be registered and test-fired for ballistics matching. Persons convicted of a crime with a firearm and certain other violent crimes should be prohibited from owning or carrying a firearm. All other adults should have unrestricted access to most firearms, including automatic weapons.

 

I also checked other. I have never owned a gun but agree with HHSDad. However, I was wondering about people who do not have a criminal history, but do have a history of mental illness. There should be some way to identify them and restrict/prohibit gun use.

 

Dont get me wrong, not all people with mental illness should be banned, but there are some that should never have guns.
