Watusi
I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts or information about Belfry's schedule for 2008. Will it be the same except for the Pike County Bowl? They will play Louisville Holy Cross in the PCB instead of Corbin. I assume the rest of the schedule will be the same. I'm not sure about the East Carter game, but I'm assuming it will be on the schedule again.
Braveheart
I would say Belfry will be undefeated and back in Louisville.
Chenoweth
I would say Belfry will be undefeated and back in Louisville. I know travel is tough from Belfry, but the kids would both benefit and enjoy at least one series with a tough opponent from some other area of the state. Jeepman
I would say Belfry will be undefeated and back in Louisville. I would have to agree with all the players that Belfry has coming back. I was surprised at just how they dismantled Breathitt. I think had Russell been playing them instead of Breathitt we would have seen the same result. I really don't see any change next year. If East Carter cancelled for some reason, maybe a West Virginia team would come on board or one of the schools left without a game because of the Harlan County merger. gchs_uk9
Schedule needs upgraded IMO. The question is who within 100 miles is wanting to play Belfry? I don't see that many. With increased gas prices and tighter education budgets, I don't see Belfry getting too far from the mountains in the near future.
Chenoweth
Does Belfry not have boosters? Would Belfry not be enough of a quality draw to earn a payout from a bowl game that would cover expenses?
Belfry Wins
Belfry tried to upgrade their schedule last season, but nobody would play. It is a rough situation because Haywood loves to play challenging schedule, they do still got JC game which is a good game for them, I just wished Belfry could get one tough opponent in the place of the East Carter or the Shelby Valey game, but I say Belfry will honor the contract next season with those schools and then not resign after that, as long as they can get a challenging opponent. FB15G8
Does Belfry not have boosters? Would Belfry not be enough of a quality draw to earn a payout from a bowl game that would cover expenses? Belfry is tied to the Pike Co Bowl....therefore it is hard to get them in another Bowl game since they are mostly played on the same weekend. A quality opponent will go if it is a home and home contract. Belfry will travel for certain. But average teams aren't going to travel up there just to get spanked. It needs to be a top notch opponent.

Belfry tried Bell County, they didn't want to travel that far, that would have been perfect. They tried Tolsia and Wayne WV (two good WV opponents) but a loss in West Virginia is rough due to playoff systems. They tried several otehr top opponents also, I know they tried Prestonsburg and a couple of others. The only school I heard is trying to play them this year is Logan West Virginia, they will move to 3A and have to improve their schedule, they have nice speed but it still would be a 30-40 point Belfry win. I wouldnt mind seeing Belfry and Letcher Central work something out.

I agree on both counts, a team with the kind of following and tradition that Belfry has should definitely play some marquee teams. Unfortunately most of the big powers in KY aren't situated near them. I love watching the Pirates play and I would like to see them play the Rocks sometime, but unfortunately I doubt that it will ever happen. I think it would definitely be a good experience for both parties though, I haven't seen many teams that play as physical a style as Belfry does. I think that playing against the kind of offense Trinity brings to the field would help Belfry in the long run as well.
Pirate Pride
Trinity has athletes galore and 90% of the time would be WAY too much for Belfry. 1 of 10 years Belfry would give them a good game. I was thinking more along the lines of teams like Lafeyette, Dunbar, Clark Co., Madison Central, Woodford Co. Some of the bigger schools. Lexington is a 3 hour bus ride. Not great, but not horrible. Some more local teams worth a look are Letcher County Central, Hazard, Raceland? It is unfortunate that Prestonsburg and Ashland seem unworkable. Bottom line, Belfry would need to head toward Lexington. IMO, if we can get a reciprocal agreement, we should take it.

There have been a few years that I feel it would have been an excellent game. 2003 and 2004 would have been darn good games. I think this past season we might have had a bit too much, but even so I think it might have helped Belfry prepare for Central's speed. Not that we were as fast.
