Holmes was down the whole game and showed up with about 4 minutes left in the game. Missed layups, missed free throws, walking! Just looked horrible. I don't know why they waited so long to play ball. I beleive someone said if they(Cov Cath) kept the game in the 40's, it would be close. Good call!!!:thumb:

It is evident the DAWGS are a TEAM after this tough victory tonight. Mental toughness is what the team has lacked over the past few years. This team was down by 11 at one point and never quit, argued, or pointed fingers. Coach Henley and staff have really instilled in the players what defense is all about. Great victory for Holmes.

100% correct and Coach Henley commented on the mental toughness of this team after the game.

Very good defense by both teams. I believe the score at the end of 3 quarters was CCH 33 Holmes 22.

 

The Johnson brothers had a coming out party tonight for those who hadn't seem them. Arrez showed up to take over in the 4th quarter and overtime. Holmes is without a doubt the best all around team in the 9th Region.

I am just glad that Cov Cath showed that they can beat Holmes for three quarters and have it be a close game without Bondick. They are not as bad as people think without him, they just are missing a key piece of the equation and are just starting to figure things out. They played Holmes much tougher than most thought they would, I would just like to see them close out a tough game like this instead of relinquishing their lead. It seems like once they get a comfortable lead they stop attacking and sit back to see what happens. Very good game though.

One thing CCH did not or could not do(not sure) was attack the rim once they broke the press and had numbers. You have to make a pressing team pay when you break it.

 

Mitch Shover did an outstanding job handling the Dogs' pressure tonight.

Since Oldguy was real tired from working all day, do you think he might've fallen alseep before the game was over and missed the final? That's probably what it was. :lol:

Was he number 4 or the light haired primary ball handler?

If so, I thought Holmes moving Arrez off of Grimes to the one ball handler created problems for CCH.

Henderson forced CCH to begin their offense way out on the floor, and once the game got tight CCH had problems.

From afar I thought Cov Cath didn't look real strong in the halfcourt. They didn't seem to get a whole lot out of their sets. Schmerge needed to get more shots.

How many turnovers did CCH have for the game? 15+ including some down the stretch when Holmes made their run.

Holmes just flat missed too many shots right at the basket. Point blank layups, and a few of them were uncontested. I think that is what made the game closer than it should have been.

I thought Holmes bench outplayed the CCH bench.

Noll and the one other big kid for CCH were fairly ineffective and didn't play particularly well. Holmes forced them to handle the ball some and make decisions with it.

Ricardo Johnson played a real nice game.

Very weird watching both teams after witnessing some great games over the years, with a list of players like Bovard, Jacobs, Hill and company.
