January 11, 200818 yr Everyone in the country would put Tubby as one of the best 5-10 coaches in the country before his last two years at UK. It wasn't because he was UK's coach as many would like to speculate. It is because he has respect from people who know. He got the number one class of recruits in "04 and that class was a total bust for UK.
January 11, 200818 yr Best case scenario, UM has a good season and competes for the Big 10 title. And then wins the National Coach of the Year honors for taking a team that won 9 games last year, wins around 23 games this year and finishes 2nd in the Big 10. People in KY will lose their minds. HILARIOUS. After reading your interesting posts, I had to wonder are you really Donna Smith?

January 11, 200818 yr You have missed the point NEER because you want to look negatively at Tubby. These same players WERE NOT BEATING THOSE TEAMS LAST YEAR. Same players, same opponents, different coach. Team is 10-3 (THEY WON ( GAMES THE ENTIRE YEAR LY), wonder what the difference is? :thumb: Absolutely correct. Nuff Said.....

January 12, 200818 yr This, to me, sums up the difference between a program like Kentucky & a program like Minnesota's. "His Gophers -- and there is no question of ownership here, Smith has already put a vise grip on the program -- are 10-3 and coming off an impressively tenacious loss at Michigan State. There is no such thing as a moral victory, but there are telling losses, and this was one." To the newspapers & fans, a "telling loss" is a moral victory. Those don't happen often in Lexington & when they do they're frowned upon...and rightfully so, IMO.

I'm a TS supporter, I would never say anything negative about him as a coach, but it was time for him and UK to part ways. The point is he's a better coach that Dan Monson, but the fact is Minnesota should beat BAD teams. Minnesota (54) Wins: 110/129/131/140/169/177/204/242/294/307/338 Losses: 5/40/47 I'm positive Minnesota will be better than they were under Monson but lets not get in a tizzy after wins of the Dakota's UCRiverside and NWestern. Minnesota should be expected to win over those programs.
January 12, 200818 yr A friend of mine from Minnesota mailed me a copy of their paper and in it it questioned UK fans because it said that UK had verbal commitments from Jai Lucas and Patrick Patterson and after tubby left they both decommitted and only Patterson recommitted to UK. I mean it could just be my memory is bad but I don't remember either of them ever verbally committing to UK b4 Patterson signed his letter of intent. Neither were, they were both thinking hard about UK, but had not committed.
