January 10, 200818 yr I'm not questioning his credibility. I can't recall me saying that what he said was untrue?? did I??? Im saying there are so many stories about recruiting now-a-days (especially with the whole Patterson story) that who knows what is true or what was just speculation. There was stuff all over Duke boards about information people had been told that Patterson would be coming to Duke, and as it turned out he was never seriously considering Duke like he was UF and UK! I see you haven't posted to much on here. So just wanted to inform you, that most stuff GT here about recruiting is right on, because his sources have been probably the most accurate on here than anyones. So when he post something like that, and sticks with it. Then it usually is not just speculation like you keep saying...
January 10, 200818 yr See I dont buy that one bit. That would just not make much sense at all. Gillispie. really did not have any relationship at all with Patterson, and Tubby and Billy D did for awhile. I think Patterson coming here, shows the information GT had was most likely right and he and Lucas was planning on coming here. However when Tubby left it got them to changed their decision. I mean if UF was the leader as you said before Billy G came, then it makes no sense why Patterson then would all of a sudden change his decision to go with a coach who he barely had a relationship at all with in Billy G. Him coming here, really shows that he wanted to go here, and that is where I do give credit to Billy G though because he was able to get Patterson to still come here like he was going to if Tubby was the coach. So if Tubby was still coach we would have Patterson and Lucas right now. And who knows we maybe just maybe could have had Morris still as well. I know that would be unlikely, but with Tubby leaving that killed any chance at all for Morris coming back as well. I also Believe we would have Patterson and Lucas...I also Believe Morris would have came back...He decided to go pro within 24 hrs of Tubbys departure...

Im not trying to call GT out so you all don't all have to stick up for him. I stick to that Patterson was obsessed with the media and who knows about the truth of his recruiting trail. Everybody had reliable sources that were thrown off. Gt was prolly right, but you can't gurantee that.
January 10, 200818 yr I also Believe we would have Patterson and Lucas...I also Believe Morris would have came back...He decided to go pro within 24 hrs of Tubbys departure... I believe we would have Patterson and Lucas...There is a good chance Morris would have still went pro though. However any chance at all of Morris MAYBE coming back went down the drain when Tubby left. I mean if Morris would have saw Patterson and Lucas sign, then he might have just stayed, because he would have had someone down low with him, and knew it could have been a great team...

IMO Top 20 and maybe top 10... I also Feel that the Back court would shoot the ball better with a better force on the inside...From My own experience I always shot better knowing I had some big guys on the inside...
January 10, 200818 yr GT has a secret "bat phone" in his house, it rings when the commish of any conference or school wants to do something, they have to inform GT first. No surprise that Minnesota fans/sports writers are going to kick UK when they are down, especially considering the success Minnesota has had so far this year. Granted this year is painful, but all UK fans need to do is point all the banners in the rafters. All the wins over the years and then ask Gophers fans to go back to rooting for their hockey team since that is the only program that is going to win anything, anytime soon. Not that I'm picking sides or generally care, I'm just saying.

Gillispie comes in, keep in mind is known to be an amazing recruiter, something Tubby was knocked for not being good at and goes at Patterson full force. Goes to Patterson shows him specific plays he all ready has for him and how many shots he tells Patterson he will get. Patterson buys into it and switches to UK.

What he did there was what got Patterson to decide to still come to UK, and I give Billy G tons of credit for that. I mean Donovan is known to be a great recruiter as well, and much more proven that Billy G and just put to poward types like Patterson in the NBA. So if UF was really the leader like you said, he would have just signed right away with UF as soon as Tubby left. Instead he did not, and he waited for a couple of weeks until UK hired someone. I think that shows that he was leaning towards UK and most likely was going to come here with Tubby. Then when Tubby left he, he decided to wait to see who the new coach was and Billy G did a good job at selling him to still come here. I mean just think about it, it dont make much sense at all why Patterson would still wait on UK, if UF was the leader as you said. Donovan is a more proven coach and recruiter than Billy G and he had a longer relationship with Donovan. So makes no sense at all on why Patterson would wait for UK to hire a coach, and then still decide to go to UK with a coach who he had really not much of a relationship with, unless he already was wanting to come to UK and planning on being here before with Tubby..

Probably would be a top 10 team. I mean we would have two great guys down low, and a true pg in Lucas. Not to mention this team would be 10 times better defensively than we are now. This team would be a great team actually...:thumb:

Actually I’m sure Patterson decided to wait to see who UK hired. Seeing that when Tubby left everyone said Donovan was coming to UK! So why would Patterson sign with a team if there was a possibility his coach would be leaving??? He obviously was interested in UK with or without Tubby that is why he waited to see who they signed. So you say Donovan being a better coach / recruiter should make Patterson’s decision easy. If that was the case then why wouldn’t he sign with Duke, seeing that Coach K is a better coach / recruiter than the both of them?? Once Gillispie was hired he went right after Patterson and out recruited Donovan for him. Gillispie combined with the uncertain future of Donovan is why Patterson came!
January 10, 200818 yr Yeah, why does he need to do that? Kentucky fans are experts at pointing out their own flaws, they don't need help.

I mean Donovan brings in top players every year now just like coach K, and well last time I checked he just won two straight Championships while Duke hasn't done so great in the tournament recently...
January 10, 200818 yr It's a smart move...take your shots when you can. UK is in the midst of a coaching transition, the roster has some holes, and they've suffered some tough injuries. With Meeks and Jasper back and presumably healthy, UK will likely improve, while Minnesota will likely falter a bit when it gets into the Big Ten schedule. And, looking ahead past this year, the odds are that UK will be consistently better than Minnesota. UK will be fine...they're struggling right now, more than expected, but they'll bounce back. Minnesota has benefitted from a cupcake schedule...they won't have that luxury any longer as the conference schedule will be considerably tougher. As for UK, IMO, they've had two bad losses (Gardner Webb and San Diego) that no one can argue against. After that, people like to complain about losses to UAB and Houston, but those aren't a big deal to me. Those teams are 11-5 and 11-2 respectively. UAB had one player go nuts and carry them to victory (it happens) and Houston should have beat us in Rupp last year...those losses aren't that surprising, especially when you consider UK's injuries. After that, only the most insane of fans would have expected W's against UNC, IU or U of L. With a full, healthy roster, I expect UK to start to make some strides and improve and play better. I just don't see the SEC as being that strong, so I think UK can get back on track to some degree. If they don't, the world won't end. I still expect them to be much improved next season regardless of how this one finishes...

There is no reason at all why any UK fan shouldn't have thought we could have beat UL, because UL is a team that we definitely were capable of beating. There was no reason at all for us to have gotten down by as much as 20 to them in the 2nd half. The only game really people would have been insane to think we could have won would be the UNC game, because IU was also missing their best player. So that was a game we should have been capable of winning as well. Billy Gillispie shouldn't get a free pass for those games and saying that those are games we had no chance of winning, because the UL and IU games are both games we should have been capable of winning...
