HOMELESS CAMEL Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 "Have you been there (to Hawai'i)? It's a miserable trip," Smith said in 2004, when, as the Michigan State head coach, he brought the Spartans here. "It's forever. Eleven hours. That's just to get you there. Then, you've got to acclimate and play a game. It's such a lovely trip. It's like a reoccurring bad dream." Sounds like someone I want to hire to represent my football team and University.
born2reign Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 I always thought John L. was a good coach in a bad situation at Michigan State. I don't know if Hawaii can do better.
Jim Schue Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 I always thought John L. was a good coach in a bad situation at Michigan State. I don't know if Hawaii can do better. I don't think anyone's ever said Johnelle wasn't a good coach, but he does have an unfortunate tendency to burn bridges not only after he crosses them, but sometimes before.
JBCousins Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 I think John L. wants ANY job, not just the Hawaii job. Correct me if I'm wrong because I was not aware of his ripping of Hawaii before but... Michigan State's coach complains about Hawaii, which in turn causes many in the Big 11 to drop Hawaii from their schedule, which in turn causes Michigan to drop Hawaii this season, which in turn causes Michigan to pick up Appalachian State, which in turn pulls one of the greatest upsets in sports history? Is that correct?

Is that correct? No, you just misread it. It did, however, mess up the BCS bowls. Smith, as you will recall, is in large part responsible for UH's subsequent difficulties in booking Big Ten opponents here. So shrill were his bleatings that Michigan State bought its way out of the scheduled 2007 game at Aloha Stadium even after he had been fired. Even Purdue tried to get out of its 2006 game before begrudgingly following through with the contest.
JBCousins Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 No, you just misread it. It did, however, mess up the BCS bowls. Right, but wasn't Appalachian State a fill in for Hawaii this season on Michigan's schedule?
Jim Schue Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Right, but wasn't Appalachian State a fill in for Hawaii this season on Michigan's schedule? Not sure.
Pancake Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 I would take it too... If BB gets it hire me and if you get I will hire you. We may not win a game, but it will be the best paid vacation ever!
RockPride Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 If John L goes there...he would be successful.
Belfry Wins Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 I would take it too... If BB gets it hire me and if you get I will hire you. We may not win a game, but it will be the best paid vacation ever! Nah we could win with that schedule, plus how hard could it be to recruit to Hawaii.
BoondockSaint Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 I think he would do alright there, but I don't believe he is an above average football coach.
gametime Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 If John L goes there...he would be successful. A 100% renegade program would suit him well...
