Another misconception. The football parents have stayed entirely out of this fight. The parents opposed were almost all high school parents of girls who play volleyball. This entire debate has always been between parents of GIRLS.

 

And I respectfully disagree. The community should not have a direct say in whether or not Beechwood has soccer. On the surface, most people in the community would say, "Sure, why not have soccer?".. It is the students and parents of the HIGH SCHOOL who should have the most imput because they are there every day and have an understanding of what the students really want.

No Community? They are taxpayers and their tax dollars go to that school I do believe. I sure hope no Board Member would ever publicly say that the community doesn't have a say in issues regarding the school in their community unless they were looking for a sure way of not getting re-elected.

I disagree that they do not have the facilities. NDA is one of the most successful programs in the state, yet they have no "home" field. Beechwood would instantly have better "facilities" than NDA has had over the last 20 years.

Actually, it is the soccer proponents who suggested that the football field would not be adequate. Again, the football parents have had zero input. Our AD said that he was more than willing to work things out as far as field time is concerned.

With the big ticket fundraiser that I hear on the radio several times a day their should be plenty of funds to put some soccer lines on the field and go play. This constant suggestion by you that the football parents and boosters have had zero input is a ridiculous statement and one that most know not to be true. Football and the boosters of football rule at Beechwood. Everyone knows that.

I would just relax about the whole thing and you never know it just might go away and even if it doesn't then 14 to 16 girls aren't going to destroy the band or VB. I stand by every statement I wrote. As I said, I have been very involved.

 

I am actually quite happy with the outcome, and very relaxed. I simply felt the need to straighten out some misconceptions that keep cropping up by people who really dont know much about the situation.

The parents mentioned in the article have middle school aged girls. They want a program established for their children to play in them. None of their children play volleyball or are in the band as far as I know.

I think Beechwood will get soccer due to activities involving why Bowling is gone(Athletic Foundation). I look for Coach Long also to leave BHS along w/a few players. Not saying Coach Long has a new job picked out and will take said players w/him, just that if he leaves a few players will also leave.

Girls that attended BHS in elementary school that left after the 8th grade due to not having soccer is TWO. Is this more understandable or do I still not understand what you are asking. There is no way of knowing how many girls at Blessed Sacrament did not come to BHS because they don't have soccer.

BHS is a little different than most as it is 7-12. Elementary is K-6 (I think). So you are telling me that only two girls grade 8 and lower have decided to enroll elsewhere due to soccer not being offered for 9-12 in the last ten years? Or only two that you KNOW of.

Not real sure what you are getting at here. BHS houses k-12, elem being k-6 w/the middle school consisting of 7/8th grades and the H.S. 9-12. This as far as I know is not any different than other schools. What I am saying and I can't get any more simple than this, girls that are in the 8th grade at BHS that decide to leave after their 8th grade yr due to not having soccer has only been TWO. One is on a soccer scholarship at Bellarmine(soph) and the other is currently a Sr at NDA.
