As for everyone saying getting soccer would not affect volleyball, fact, last yr there were enough 7/8th grade girls to actually have individual teams for both. This yr, as of right now, there were only 4 7th graders at open gym, not sure about the 8th graders. I think this is affecting volleyball!

Only thing I know in regards to this is there is one freshman to be that has been showing up for both. I would dig deeper and try to answer your question.

 

Bottom line is that the main stipulation was not met yet they still voted it in, WHY?

OK, hot off the press from Beechwood. There was another mtg held tonight and soccer is voted IN! It will now go to the board on Mon for final approval which I can tell you, for a fact, it will get IN! Remember I told you so.

 

Now, my question is why were there stipulations made re: this 2 week camp about there must be at least 16 players consistantly at this camp for consideration. From my sources they had only 14 players max at this camp and it was still voted IN because it was said "that's close enough!" Secondly, the parents have agreed to come up w/the money needed to fund this team. So, my second question is how can this be? I was under the impression when a donation is made it basically can not be steered into one pot but all the pots. So, I could not designate a $10,000 donation to the volleyball team w/out doing the same for all other sports.

If they only have 14 players on the roster, that is going to be pretty difficult. Need at least 16. 18 would be much better.

Exactly, and there is always the possibilities of girls quiting. I don't see how the board can agree to this but I have been told thru the grapevines that the board has been advised to vote this in. We will see on Mon night.

Moving forward with a program with less than the numbers necessary to support it may lead to problems. Beechwood may end up killing two girls' fall sports in the process.

I agree. Initially they did not have enough girls to sign up for the clinic. They extended sign ups for two weeks while the soccer proponents called girls asking them to play. I know a few girls who signed up as a favor to make the numbers look right who have no intention of actually signing up for the team.

 

The media reflected what the soccer proponents told them. They inflated their numbers got attorneys, called the media and did every thing they could to force this issue. The site based people are all great people who have had a very hard year with this issue. I think the soccer proponents simply wore them down and they had no option other than to vote for it.

 

Most likely the board will have no option either. The soccer proponents have a lot of money and are ready, willing and able to take legal steps if necessary. The school simply cannot afford to wage a legal battle.

 

The fear of the soccer opponents has always been that adding a fall sport will result in two bad teams.

 

As I stated earlier this is why elementary parents (who make up the majority of the soccer proponents) should not dictate what goes on in the high school.

The problem is that the people involved(committee) have never been an athlete and have no idea what it takes to play a sport let alone compete in a sport. They are all afraid of a lawsuit that was threatened by the Elementary parents. The committee had stipulations and the stipulations were not met, end of coversation, no soccer. However, the committee was scared and voted it in. If I understand right, the board meets Mon night for the final YES vote which will happen, IMO.

 

BHSfan, what does the school have to be afraid of, they have done nothing wrong. As a matter of fact, I think the school in general hase bent over backwards for this to be successful. It is the soccer people who have failed to produce players.

 

The board will vote YES, not because of the lawsuit but because of the "Athletic Foundation!" Money, money and more money w/the rich soccer kids.

I think if the number is 14, that is too low to because you are bound to have a few injuries in a season. I would be interested in what the true number is and not the number "heard". However I also think that if that number is 16 or so, that really should not be "hurting" any other fall sports as that is a very small percentage of all students.

The volleyball proponents claim they know more girls who are interested which translates into "We need to start calling again and beg more girls to sign up."

I wonder where all the little girls went to that showed up wearing their BHS soccer shirts at the mtg held in the commons? There were at least 25 of them and out of those 25 I saw maybe 2 upper classwomen.

I agree that 10-12 is not enough. 16 would be my minimum. Otherwise you are spinning your wheels.

Are there any other NKY schools who have elementary school soccer?? I don't know of any so to answer your question NO, IMO. This has been one of the complaints for the components agaisnt soccer, it is all elementary interest and they should not be dictating what is happening in the H.S. I understand they will be in H.S. sooner or later but until then, sorry, no soccer.

If you never establish a program the soccer players certainly will be going to NDA and St. Henry. That is for certain.
