I might have to change that. Somerset would play on Thursday afternoon at 5pm...might not get to cancel school after all!

I think the fact that he left Danville to go to Taylor County might mean that he may be leaning towards playing basketball after high school. Danville is a football school. Period.

Athletic Scholarships now a days means academics, if you don't have the academics, no scholarship.

Since when is Taylor County a basketball power. If I was going to showcase my bball talents it wouldn't be at Taylor County for sure.

I am not stating Taylor County is a basketball power. I am stating at Taylor County he can get away with not playing football at all next year if he so decides to focus on just basketball. There is no way whatsoever Leonard Macon attends Danville and doesn't play football or make football his number 1 priority without his basketball career at Danville suffering in the process. The pressure from coaches, school, and community would be too large for him to not play football at Danville and still play basketball. Taylor County won't apply half the pressure of playing football that Danville would. I will be interested to see if he continues his football career.

Sounds like to me the football coaches thought they were doing Leonard a favor by "letting" him go to the West Coast basketball tournament. That makes me think, as said in the earlier post, that he was put under pressure to give 100% to football. I can understand the football coach wanting that, but if the player doesn't...

With Danville being a small independent school, I know for a fact, athletes are encouraged to play more than one sport. No coach at Danville, discourages any player from not playing more than one sport, only that athlete focus on the sport that is in season.

UK had already offered Macon in football. They pulled it after he got in trouble and Rich Brooks said "When he gets back in good graces with Coach Harp and he (Coach Harp) gives us the OK" the scholarship offer will be there. That is taking the chance of throwing an SEC scholarship in Football down the drain.

 

I haven't seen him play basketball, but 6'5 power forwards normally don't make it to D1 status. 6"5 athletic recievers can name there own destiny if they have the attitude and work ethic to succeed.

Exactly...Last years Starting QB Rich Witten is all about baseball...I have heard Coach Harp say that it would not be fair to tell a Kid He has to make a choice on what sport to play...Coach Harp Cares for these Kids...He want's them to succeed in everything that they do...:thumb:

I heard from someone that knows today that the football staff was very supportive of Macon playing basketball. This person said that it was very discouraging that noone even notified them of the move.

Sounds like to much attention to soon. I do not know that he has the speed to be a receiver in the SEC if he gets back in good graces. YOu could turn into a tight end like Tamme, which as far as I can see would be a good thing!
