Miracle maybe?

I thought the Big Bang theory had an explosion from some point and everything is moving away from that point. So, unless the Sun is that point that is anchored, wouldn't it be moving also from that central point?:sssh:

 

Maybe you guys are assuming the wrong movement in relation to Earth? It is not specific on it's definition of "stopped.":D

The Sun is NOT stopped. The Sun moves in an orbit around the galactic center of the Milky Way at approximately 250 km/second. The galaxy is also moving in relation to another group of glaxies known as the local group, at speeds ranging up 100 km/s, and then the local group is moving at a speed of around 600 km/s against the background of the cosmic microwave. Maybe God did stop the Sun in its movement for a day. I dunno, above my pay grade. Can't be proven scientifically right now, also can't be disproven right now. This of course is both LBBC and Larry's point.

Something that I have heard brought up many times in this type of debate is that people are created in the image of God. Many folks get downright angry at the idea that we could be descended from a common ancestor with apes and other primates. To some it seems to make us less like God b/c God isn't an ape.

 

I take a different view on this. I think the image of God is a person's soul. There have been lots of clever creatures on this planet. Chimps use tools, and build crude structures to sleep in. Whales and dolphins have complex languages, etc. But only humans seem to be aware of their place in it all. I think the image of God refers not to our physical body but the fact that we can image, create, think, reason, and solve complex problems on our own.

 

It's just a thought to keep this thread going.

Eagle, I think you made a great point. God gave life but Man is special. Man sins...animals don't. Sin touches all humans, but never is the image of God ever gone. When sin enters into Man, he can "choose" to restore himself back to God. In Colossians 3:10 Paul refers to "the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of God who created him."

A question that has always bothered me...if man is made in the image of God and God cannot sin, than how was men able to sin?

Because an image is not a clone. We are a reflection of God.

Dad I believe is right on it. I was just gonna say we are human and he is God. Man was created to represent God on earth and to rule over all things in his name. God's desire is to bless humans and to enjoy a relationship with them.

I've always agreed with this. I used it in an argument against a guy trying to justify the KKK's stance on racial discrimination.

One reason I believe in evolution is b/c in 6,000 years you don't have enough time to get people of different "races". Genetically there is no difference between a person from Europe, Africa, Asia, etc, but we have adapted to differing environments with skin color and body types. I once asked a Young Earth Creationist why we have different skin colors.....he wouldn't answer. My granny had an answer (she was a YECer) and I was deeply offended by it.

Probably not the answer you're looking for, but it would seem to me that a Being capable of speaking the universe into existance would not have a difficult time speeding up any evolutionary process He deemed fit.
