The closest we have today to a accurate translation is the NASB Bible.

If you don't believe God created the heavens and earth in six days, and rested on the seventh, this includes of course man....you are calling God a liar. Good Luck.

Sorry Larry, you can't tell me what I'm calling God. Only I can. You don't speak for me, only I do. As for the luck part, I don't need it. My God gives me all I need and that includes grace and discernment to seek.

It's this attitude in this post that usually makes me just give up on trying to enter dialogue with others.

My NIV says wild ox on the first one. Not sure what a satyr is but my NIV says wild goats.

Wonder what the original manuscript says? Hatz? Alabama Larry? Fastbreak? Any help here?

Sorry, I don't have my Biblia Hebraica with me at home. Maybe Larry can give you some help.

Hatz, sorry I made you mad. I just was reporting what the first verse of the Bible said that God said. I wasn't calling you anything. You are not the first person to get upset with me. God created man in his image, there is no evolution.

Feel free to avoid my posts as I do others that upset me. I don't post on here to get praise, I quote the Bible and how the Holy Spirit leads me.

Unicorns like others have said is mentioned in some verses or strong bull in some translations. In Psalms 92:10 it mentions "bull with a horn" where in Dueteronomy 33:17 it mentions "a strong bull with Horns".

There are nine verses in the OT that mentions these bulls/Oxen. This also is in the Concordance under Unicorns.

You didn't quote the scripture when you said:

If you don't believe God created the heavens and earth in six days, and rested on the seventh, this includes of course man....you are calling God a liar. Good Luck.

You make blanket connections and generalizations concerning the scripture that it doesn't make for itself and then you declare that those who differ with you are "calling God a liar."

BTW, the first verse of the Bible says, "In the beginning God created . . ." It's that simple and it's that verse that interprets all that follows. It is that verse that I hold to with all of my life and soul.

I find it interesting that you haven't told me which version/translation of the Scriptures is the one you declare without error. It is convenient to say it has to be literal and this way when you can't tell me which one you speak of so I too may debate it specifically.

For what it's worth, how do you interpret the text in Joshua 10:13?

"So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, Until the nation avenged themselves of their enemies." Is it literal? Or is it a figure of speech? If literal how did the sun stop? If it is that the earth stopped revolving so that there were more hours to the daylight then fine. But that is not what the text says. If you don't believe that the sun actually stopped then you are calling God a liar. (BTW, if that is true then tell me when it moves and how in the context of which Scripture is speaking.)

FWIW, I have no reason to believe that the sun didn't stand still or the moon stopped. If God wants it to do that, it can do that.

But the Sun doesn't move. The earth would have to be what stopped and what stood still.

That's fine with me. But that is not what the text says. It says the sun stopped.

Now if you want to say, "It appeared to stop to the writer and therefore we are talking about semantics and symbolism," okay by me.

Then why can't the same be applied to Genesis 1?

Hatz, take a deep breath. You make some comments about me because I differ with people and they with me? Freewill, you have the right. if someone doesn't believe the verses I quoted earlier than differ with who? Not me, so what are they calling God? It is very basic.

I suggested earlier to avoid my post if you choose, if you want to debate me, great start a new thread. Joshua 10:13 lets see....I believe the sun stopped for a whole day, God did this, he is God for crying out loud!

If someone differs on a bible topic they are not calling God anything, but when you go to the basic belief of creation, then there is a problem.

The sun cannot "stop". Its already stopped. The earth and all the planets and their satellites revolve around the sun. The sun is the center of the solar system. But the writers of the scriptures did not know this at the time. Most believed the earth was the center of the universe. This belief prevailed until the days of Copernicus (1473-1543), when he proved the earth revolved around the sun.

Excellent points!

Joshua commanded the Sun and the Moon to stand still over Gibeon until the Israelites completed their tasks. He prayed to God to delay the sun's descent. This was due to a battle.

Are we still talking about evolution, creation and intelligent design?

The Sun is NOT stopped. The Sun moves in an orbit around the galactic center of the Milky Way at approximately 250 km/second. The galaxy is also moving in relation to another group of glaxies known as the local group, at speeds ranging up 100 km/s, and then the local group is moving at a speed of around 600 km/s against the background of the cosmic microwave. Any internet search will tell you this. Here's a pretty cool picture:

Imagine what we will KNOW tomorrow.

Maybe God did stop the Sun in its movement for a day. I dunno, above my pay grade. Can't be proven scientifically right now, also can't be disproven right now. This of course is both LBBC and Larry's point.

Motion, in general, is relative. I may appear stationary, sitting here at my computer typing. Obviously, however, I am moving with the Earth as it rotates on its axis, revolves about the sun, which revolves about the galaxy, which moves through the universe. Motion should always be compared to a frame of reference.

By the way, Hearsay, that is one of my favorite photo websites. :thumb:

And of course my point was that why not say that? Why not say that the earth's rotation stopped? Because it was what they knew. Just like Genesis 1 may be taken by Bible believing Christians.
