FOX announcers = terrible

How bad are the FOX announcers for the BCS games? Thom Brennaman called Georgia the Gators the other night. Charles Davis is a former basketball player calling football games and doesn't know the rules. Pat Summerall calling the Cotton Bowl? Yuk.

I concur, who exactly would let them call the game?

Yeah, whatever happened to Dave Lapham doing the Cotton Bowl? I always look forward to his non-Bengals games, especially that one. Did he end up demoted to a low-rent bowl?

When you think about it, it's kind of like Fox's curse for staking its college sports claim as being the "regional provider." As a result, their regular-season national games are usually three to four rungs down the ladder, competing with CBS, ABC and NBC for the 3:30 time slot.

To make the broadcast feel more big-time, they bring in their NFL and MLB "name" guys who don't normally do college football (rather than sticking with quality, experienced regional guys), and are generally woefully unprepared for it. ABC/ESPN needs to get back the BCS package to fix this, because that's where the best crews reside.

Having listened to Thom when he was with the Cubs and followed his career since then, I really enjoy listening to him.

I can't think of any complaints when he called the Boise St/Oklahoma game last year, but then again, maybe I was too caught up in the game.

I didn't watch the Florida game, so I didn't hear how good or bad he was.

As bad as they are, I would take them over the current guys on the NFL network in a heart beat.

I would take GT over the guys at the NFL network. :p

This is the same network that continues to inflict Tim McCarver on baseball fans, after all ...

What is FOX's obsessions with the bands. All we saw last night was the Oklahoma band. Now we get band shots on every cut away. Show the coaches, the cheerleaders, the beer vendor -- something other than the band.

I never like watching a game on Fox and that includes any sport. I wish the baseball playoffs would be changed to another channel.

The most I have seen Charles Davis is on the Golf Channel.

I think Thom Brennaman does a great job.

Well, thank you Captain Obvious.:jump:

I agree. I was thinking the same thing last night. The KU/VT game was a good one, but the tone of Albert killed me. If I hadn't been able to see the score, I would have thought it to be a blow out. Almost put me to sleep.
