Open Deer Season in Ft Thomas!!!!!!

Featured Replies

Is Ft Thomas becoming the laughing stock or what. Day after day, i keep hearing about the humorous stories that are circulating around Ft Thomas about this guy and that guy walking through the backyards of the City of Beautiful Homes. Boy did the city leaders screw this one up. Why wouldn't the city appoint a 5 to 6 person committee with some kind of hunting experience to decide how these deer should be terminated. Or do the deer even have to be terminated. How do they know!!!! Did they perform a survey to decide how many deer need to be taken. That's a big NO!!!!! I allready have my city leaders addresses posted on my frig so when a deer ends up in my front yard with my kids playing, i will know where to drop it off. Give me a break people, show me on paper we have a problem. Until then, deal with it!!!! I bet the next couple of weeks will be the last time you will ever be able to discharge a bow legally in the limits of Ft Thomas.

With a lot of restrictions. So Boom, you don’t think there is an overpopulation of deer in Ft. Thomas?

Maybe there is, maybe there isn't. There are a ton of people regretting their decision to push the hunt. Would you want 2 total strangers that don't even live in campbell county going door to door in your neighborhood to see if they can hunt. Heck, some of them aren't even asking!!! I don't pay the tax dollars that i pay to put up with that crap!!!!!

There is, without a doubt, an overpopulation of deer in Ft. Thomas. If there was a better way of controlling the population they would do it but unfortunately there isn’t. If you don’t want anyone knocking on your door put up a no hunting sign. If you know of someone hunting on someone else’s property without permission call the police. I know for a fact that the police will take that very seriously and they will be fined. They will probably have their bows and automobile confiscated also. It's not so funny if you hit one of these animals, like I have!

Then the cops need to be called.

I don't have that much of a problem with it. I do think they should manage the "hunt" a little better from the city building but I don't have a problem with the "hunt".

Hunters, when you get a hunting license or at least your guns, do you have to get a background check? Takes the 'criminals with guns' theory out of the equation.

I do think they should make any hunter that wants to hunt within the city limits sign up at the city building and go through some accuracy and safety tests. I understand it has to be pretty minimal because of cost but at least track who is hunting where and killing what...

As for alternatives, I don't see very many Ft. Thomas taxpayers digging into their pockets to finance an alternative method...

I agree Boom. The city should have regulated this hunt to the citizens only. Simple little process of getting the citizens who hunt to come to the city building on a certain day at a certain time to register. To register would've required a photo I.D, possible hunting spots, and registration of the weapon (bow) that is being used. But the city council decided to go with the "free for all" approach. For the amount of money we pay in taxes we have some complete idiots running this city.

Then the cops need to be called.

Kentucky cities are not permitted to regulate hunting. The ordinance that was passed by Fort Thomas is regulating the discharge of arrows from bows or crossbows. The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources are responsible for regulating hunting.

So there's zero tracking of bows or crossbows?

I have yet to see a Fish and Wildlife officer here in this city regulating the hunt. The city police are the ones taking care of it. They are the ones running the hunters out of the areas where they are not supposed to be and keeping count of the kills.

That's correct, nor should there be!

That's correct, nor should there be!

Why's that? Isn't a bow and crossbow considered a deadly weapon? So what your saying is a convicted felon can own a crossbow or a bow.

So there's zero tracking of bows or crossbows?

If you mean tracking the sell of bows or crossbows then no, there isn't any tracking. If you mean tracking hunting with bows or crossbows then yes. You have to have a hunting licenses and anyone born after 01/01/75 must attend a hunter saftey class to hunt regardless of weapon.
