Peabody is owned and operated by the Department of Fish and Wildlife, different situation. A City can’t regulate hunting; the only thing they can regulate is the discharge of weapons for the purpose of hunting.

I stand corrected. I always thought the state just managed the property as a WMA. I didn't realize they actually owned most of it.

How do you take $400.00 out of your checking acct if their is only $100.00?

I am not for totally eradicating the deer in Ft. Thomas but managing it. I am as big a hunter as anybody and posted in other outdoor threads but not knowing a starting number is just down right stupid business sense. I would like for some of the other posters on here that are close to the situation to give me there best guess on how big the deer herd is in town. This should be interesting to say the least.

There is, without a doubt, an overpopulation of deer in Ft. Thomas. If there was a better way of controlling the population they would do it but unfortunately there isn’t. If you don’t want anyone knocking on your door put up a no hunting sign. If you know of someone hunting on someone else’s property without permission call the police. I know for a fact that the police will take that very seriously and they will be fined. They will probably have their bows and automobile confiscated also. It's not so funny if you hit one of these animals, like I have!

 

Yes there is, clear up the hillsides that run alongside the river. This will let the so-called overpopulated ones migrate back to the heavily wooded areas. And if you think letting outsiders in to hunt is going to control the deer population than your sadly mistaken. I bet it would be hard to find one doe killed since they opened the hunt. So the answer is let the Clowns from out of town come in and kill the city deer. Heck, they don't have to do anything besides stand there and shoot. These deer are like pets in this town. They are sitting ducks. There will be 2 state titles that come out of Ft Thomas this year.

I have heard estimates of 250 on the low end to 800 on the high end. I don’t know what the population is but it is obvious that’s it’s too many for the area. The deer are just about land locked also. You have I-471 to the west, I-275 to the south and east and the Ohio River to the north of the city limits. I don’t think anyone wants the deer to be eradicated, just controlled. The deer are becoming more aggressive and domesticated, they have no fear of humans and that can be very dangerous.

The deer will not “migrate” back to the woods where they will have to fight other deer for food. They will stay in the city. One thing the city need to do is have harsher penalties for residents feeding and having salt licks for the deer.

Settle down tiger:fight:, I said I don’t know how many and I really don’t care. I just know that there are too many being aggressive and domesticated. Those kinds of deer will be the easy and likely kills. Like I said before, the deer are land locked and the ones that don’t get killed by cars or die of natural causes are going to keep reproducing. Something has to be done to protect the citizens of Fort Thomas.

I am going in the 250 range no more though. I also agree with Boom that the answer is to hunt the heavily wooded areas around the river and concentrate on killing them all there so those inner city deer can move back into their natural habitat. I agree that the inner city deer wont go their if it is occupied by other dominant animals but if you offer them an opportunity to relocate my guess is they will. This theory would also assure us that some nimrod isnt slinging arrows from Joe Dirts house on Elm St in the middle of town while Bob Busters 50th birthday party on one side is under way in the backyard and Suzzy Annes graduation party from the Cookie Girl Club is taking place on the other side.
