If Darius Miller plays like he does in the second half against Covcath, then he is too much to handle and Mason Co wins by 15+.

 

I totally agree with you if Miller comes out on fire this one could get ugly. Mason by 14.

Hey Knightsdad,Why don't LexCath have a better following?I mean they have to have good community support overall to have the nice facilities and tourneys and all they have,And they always have a top 15 ballteam so what is up with there crowds.I know a road game there lucky to have 10 people there and then there home games aren't that big of crowds either.Now that you say something about it Ive always wonder this.Thanks.

 

mhighfield, I surely miss your updates. This is a great indication as to the travels you make for a boys game and your availability to update on BGP's.

This will be a tough, physical game. I believe that Mason is about 10+ pts better than Lex Cath, but taking into account that Mason Co. will be playing its 10th game in a little over 2 weeks, Mason Co will be a little tired. They also are a little banged up and are playing Lex Cath on their home floor. With all that said, I think Mason Co. wins a nail biter, by 3 points.

I don't see Mason being able to contend with the LexCath inside game. Mason will win it if they can make their outside shots. LexCath needs to play to their strength, Novosel and Taylor on the inside plus Sanford slashing to the basket. Catholic has a better inside game and this combined with the outside shooting of Smart adds up to about a ten point win. The main stumbling block for LexCath as I see it is that this group has not won such an important game to date, hopefully this will be a prelude to bigger things.

 

You do realize that Mason Co did play 2 top 20 teams in hawaii don't you?

I heard last night that a station from Maysville will be broadcasting the game over the internet. Does anybody know which station that would be????

It's only a guess but one of the advantages a small county school has over an urban private is the community support. LexCath has many sports programs for girls and boys that other schools don't offer (Hockey and Ultimate Frisbee for instance). The parents of players are the only ones you see at games for the most part, except for championships at the regional level or higher. I know a lot of the students are at practice at night. The LexCath community takes a lot of pride in their athletic accomplishments but I think their success has reduced the interest until the games really count. When fans are there, they usually aren't as loud as county fans because they aren't as involved during the season. This is also true of the other Lexington schools so it's more of an urban thing I think. As for the tournaments, I think these are needed to pay the bills. I always find it ludicrous that a school that has such minimal following gets accused so much of breaking rules when the interest in a given sport is so much less than at rural schools.

Id say the Hawaii trip will be all i miss this year.If work would have been a little more understanding i wouldn't have missed that .:DIll make most 3/4 of the girls games this year also.

I generally read all the posts regarding certain teams like Mason and Scott County, so I know about their Hawaii experience. Maybe they have had a bad tournament so far but I like our top four after Miller. I only made the earlier officiating comment in response to others who were suggesting the officials would perhaps favor LexCath. I've thought the officiating has been very balanced in the games I've seen despite complaints from Elliott County fans to the contrary. Sometimes calls are missed but I see no pattern favoring one team over another.

It will be interesting how they match up, and if Miller goes inside or stays outside. Inside, Catholic has no match for him. In last year's game at MC, he shut Novosel down when it counted at the end of regulaion, and at the end of the 1st OT. Miller made two big time stops on a very good inside player. I would think Middleton would be on Stewart, and Setty on Smart? Someone more familiar with MC players will have to give the point guard matchup. Catholic may put Corvin on Miller to play him physical and draw charges.

Has Smart gotten any interest from D-1 schools?

I put this tournament on my calendar every year and it never seems to disappoint me. Have seen 2 days of this great event and look forward to the Mason/LexCath game.

Well he has been asked to walk on at Vanderbilt and already comitted there academically. So yup.

The comments made may not even have been from Elliott fans and there were comments negating them. I shouldn't have singled out a particular fan group. My apologies.

 

I really like the Elliott team and have a niece who taught at the school. I hope they make the Sweet 16 this year.
