Seydrick Walker of Lloyd is 5'6 155 lbs. He benches 245 lbs and squats 405 lbs. That's pretty dang good for someone of that size.

:lol:Put all of these lifts on you tube to show everyone and the numbers will be believeable. I have been involved in a few programs and all of those "500 pound squatters" quickly became 250 or 315 pound squatters when they actually had to go to parallel.

Kind of like the 4.3 Forty yard dashes people keep talking about. Look up the NFL combine and see how many 4.3 forties were run. Not many...

Finally, I have never seen a squat rack or bench press on a football field... Have you?

Gotta love inflated numbers...

So the only truth-teller here is sml007....

I had a coach tell me long time ago that they don't put much stock in the squat and bench because there are guys that never can transfer them into athletic ability. He gave an example of the kickers in college squating more than linebackers but not being able to transfer that into tackling guys. He also said that lineman that bench the most but get bull rushed because they have bad feet or poor technique.

He did say that he puts more stock in the clean and the short shuttle because they better show the explosiveness of a player and I have noticed that the better players also have the better numbers in these two skills.

I'm not saying this coach doesn't know what he is talking about, but squat, deadlift, clean, and bench are pretty important. They are explosive, power lifts that built multiple muscles. And squat and deadlift will increase your clean. Bench is not performed in football per say, but blocking with your hands strongly resembles a good bench press.

It sounds like, by your explanation, that the type of lifts are being blamed for agility, form, and athletic ability. Doing these lifts will not make you a great football player, but it is one piece of the puzzle. Footwork drill, speed drills, flexibility drill, and athletic ability are part of the puzzle as well.

That is impressive!

Glenn Roberts 5'9 205 FB/LB from Harlan County. I think this kid benches around 285 and deadlifts over 600.

Patrick Vansant from CCH is extremely strong. CCH has numerous strong players coming back, and many younger kids quickly developing.

Cole Abney 6'2", 210 lbs., Rockcastle 11th grader to be age 16, did 225 lbs. thirty (30) times today and racked it. I'm not sure but I think that is crazy strong.

If he did 225 30 times then he is a true stud. For a high school kid 10 to 15 reps @ 225 is very strong.
