Best "Could'a'been team

McCarty was a senior in '96. He only played 3 years because he lost a year to Prop 48.

Without McCarty that list of players is still very, very strong..

Never said it wasn't.

Never said it wasn't.

I know, didn't say you did.

Who would have been on the UK team the 2 years after Rex left early? I think Eric Manual was there then.

What about UNC the 2 years after Michael Jordan left early?

Jordan only bypassed his senior year.

In Kentucky lore:

1989 Rex Chapman, Shawn Kemp to go with Leron Ellis, Chris Mills and Derrick Miller.

1994 If Mashburn came back then the outside would have been open again for Ford and a sophomore named Delk. Rhoades would not have to carry the load on his psyche and it would have been helped with Walter McCarty, a healthy Prickett and Dent.

1997 Antoine Walker is back for his Junior Year to go with Mercer, a healthy Anderson, Epps, Padgett and company.

1998 Antoine Walker is back for his Senior Year to go with the other KY players that won the NCAA.

1999 Mohammad returns for his senior season to provide low post help and team with Magloire. Padgett, Turner and Heishimu Evans get help from a young Tayshaun Prince.

I think the 2000 Duke team might have been the greatest ever if they all stayed.

North Carolina was hit hard by this for the last 30 years.

Some from the past would have been:

1983 Jordan was a sophomore and Perkins a Junior but James Worthy would have been a Senior. They lost in the Elite 8 that year.

1985 would have paired Brad Daugherty with a Senior Michael Jordan.

1996 and 97 UNC would have had Rasheed Wallace and Jerry Stackhouse who both bolted after their 2nd years.

1999 Antwan Jamison and Vince Carter would have returned to Heels.

But how great would the '06 and '07 teams have been if so much of that talent had stayed.

I agree. Those UNC teams could have been something very special..

Potential starting 5 of Shawn Kemp, Rex Chapman, Eric Manual, Chris Mills, and Leron Ellis. Hanson would have been there for 1 year I believe.

The only reason I didn't mention Manual was because he did not turn pro but was caught up in the Testing Scandal and banished from the NCAA. I didn't see that as criteria that was the same as having opted to "go pro."

You beat me to it!!

My all-time favorite team, the 1969-70 UK Wildcat team that began NCAA tournament play ranked #1 but lost to Jacksonville 106-100 in the regional finals when star Dan Issel fouled out. As good as Issel (33.9 pg./13.2 rpg), Mike Pratt (19.3 ppg./9.5 rpg), and Tom Parker (10.4 ppg) were, the real key was expected to be a guard from Shelbyville named Mike Casey. Casey had been second in scoring to Issel during the previous season at 19.1 ppg. and was considered an All-American candidate before a car accident in the summer of 1969 shattered his leg and caused him to miss the entire season. Adolph Rupp's first words upon hearing of the accident were said to have been "Well, there goes the National Championship."

^BTW, Casey was the Balfor representative that sold the rings to the 1996 UK NC team. Story goes that Pitino ordered one extra for Casey.

If LeBron had went to Ohio State like he most likely would've done had he gone to college, he would've been a senior last year... Not sure if that counts in the criteria, but that team would've been scary.

Sorry, I somehow missed this post before.

I would love to have seen 2006 Florida vs. UNC...

Mythical 05/06 North Carolina starting 5:

PG Raymond Felton SR

SG Rashad McCants SR

SF Marvin Williams SO

PF Tyler Hansbrough FR

C Sean May SR
