Campbellsville University Next Head Coach

Any opinions out there? Heard they were going to talk with Sam Harp and Chuck Smith.

Sam Harp would be nuts to leave with the team he has coming back next year. Plus it would be a bit of a late-in-life move for him, and that just doesn't make a lot of sense.

As far as Chuck Smith, I don't know. It seems his situation is pretty good, unless he's dying to be back in charge again.

I can't see Chuck Smith at all in this situation.

It is public record and I am not totally sure of the exact figures, but I think Chuck is making $133,000 as a UK assistant. Can the head coaching position at Campbellsville University even touch that kind of money?

I look for C-ville to get a guy with small college experience and some Carson-Newman ties. I thought Chuck King would be a prime candidate, but I'm not sure he is interested. C-ville needs to take a long look at their compensation package and make it competitive with the other small colleges in the state and better than a top high school job. What really needs to happen is to have some booster or alum with deep pockets pony up a little cabbage. Gus McCrae, where are you when we need you?

There will be no Carson-Newman connection with the next head coach, I know that for a fact. They will go back to the roots of the program for this hire....... More later................

Why don't they want your help Gus?????

Not sure...I think maybe because they think I would go against their grain or something...Just a feeling I get.

I feel like there is a lot to offer there. Alumni wants a winner, don't they. Shake it up a little. They didn't mind going after Travis Ford and Adkins is doing a great job for basketball. Spend some $$$ and get someone that will make the kids proud and the rebuilding easier.

Are they looking or would they look at any high school coaches? IMO Paul Rains at LCA would dod a very good job there. There are probably other h.s. coaches that could take this job and do well also. Maybe someone closer to the program can keep us posted.

I agree.

Going to interview someone Saturday. Very good source, would not say who?

Head coach at an NAIA school is generally a step down from a good high school position in terms of salary, security, and retirement. Only if one can be successful enough to move up the ranks is it worthwhile.

Disagree a little. All depends on your coaching goals.
