Lawrence County Head Coaching Position Officially Open!

J.R. Cook - From the Johnson Central staff. Sorry JC but he is ours at heart and we should look at him hard if he's interested?

Hey he is our guy now. I know Coach Cook and he is a nice guy, just don't know if he's ready for a HC job yet.

I was at that game. If I am not mistaken, it was Alan Shorts first game starting qb after Jason left.

Just thought I would throw this out there but from what I've been told, Chuke Williams has been contacted and its happened more than once.

What are your thoughts on why Chuke did so bad a Bourbon County? Do the football savvy Lawrence fans just give him a free pass on that performance?

Well here is how I feel about the matter... People still remember the 1990's...

Who were the coaches during most of that time? Billy Goldsmith and Chuke Williams. People still remember the times when on Friday night they would roll up the streets in Louisa and shut everything down because it was Football night and the Dawgs were playing at home. People in the County had a certain pride about their football team and rightfully so. Recently I have seen the crowds at the game slowly diminish. I feel bad for Billy, Because he really wanted this program back to where it was in the 1990's. But something was missing, I don't know what it was, But there was something. Now the question is Who do we pick as our Head Coach? This is a critical hire because if we hired the wrong type of coach it will be a death blow to the program. I love this program and am willing to fight to put the right person at the helm of our football program. We need to get together as a committee and let our one voice be heard. I know for a fact that Chuke Williams has been contacted about the position at LC. I know he won't come cheap and will want full control of the program. But the questions again is Can Chuke bring the program back to where it once was? Another question Does Lawrence County have the same type of Player in 2007 as it had in the 1990's? Who is the right choice to lead the Dawgs? These are questions I am asking myself and as a Lawrence County fan you should be asking yourself also.

Allow me to throw this out there......

You hear so much talk from Lawrence fans and players about the 90's and all the great teams and how great that time period was for Lawrence Co. football. Would it be better from a program standpoint to acknowledge the past and move on to the future? Although I'm all for honoring tradition, great teams, honoring the way things "used" to be done, but are you setting yourself up for failure? For Lawrence Co. to repeat all those great things that it did as a program in the 90's (state semi's, perfect regular seasons, countless number of players going to play college football, state records, winningest program in the 90's in the whole state, etc...) would be a tall order for any program or "coach" to do again. With the recent struggles of the program and the decline in interest or enthusiasm by some in Louisa with the program, would it be better to accept the current situation/status of the program and start a new tradition of Lawrence Co. football and let the players from 2008 and on create their own memories, records, accomplishments, etc...? In my opinion, whoever they hire needs to bring a level of confidence to the program along with discipline in doing things right. Not saying this hasn't been done previously, you just have to find the right fit with coach/program and everything will take off. No doubt the talent is there, the feeder program from JFL to middle school is sound, but the new coach has to come in and start a new tradition of Lawrence Co. football. There is no guarantee that the "belly" offense is going to save the day in Louisa. I get the impression that some posters on here live and breathe the belly offense and attribute that to a lot of the success that the program experienced in the 90's. Let's be honest, Lawrence Co. turned out some phenomenal talent in the 90's, and I believe that type of talent still exists within the school today. You're just going to have to bring in the right person to get the community/school excited about football again, and that coach has got to make football "IMPORTANT" to every able body in the school. The past teams from the 90's, the belly offense, or whatever is not going to turn the program around. It's going to take a special coach, and a special group of young men to do it. Don't continue to throw up the past to the players about this team did this and this team did that. Let them create their own identity. The belly offense is not going to save the program and neither is what happened in the 90's.

Just my two cents worth.

I think we have to get a coach that will bring all the kids out to play football not just certain ones within the community. I was just saying in my post that what we need to bring back to the program is the pride and the passion to once again be the team of the future but not forgetting the winning tradition of our past. Is there a coach out there that can do this? I don't know...

Is this Ed Dixon the same Ed Dixon who played @ Fairview back in the 90's?

Any news from the discussions with Chuke Williams?

Chuke did not dominate at Bourbon County but it takes time to build a program. Hilton left Chuke with little talent his first year. Chuke had a nice season at Bourbon his 2nd year 9-2? Lost a lot of players after that and had a bad 3rd year. He gets a pass in my book.

He was there only a few years but had enough time to take the roster down to 19 and not even have a JV team.
