sportsfan41 Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 Ok so I'm really really in need of a lap top for school. So just after Christmas I'm planning on buying one but have no idea what I need. Mostly I'm just going to be using it for school. Writing papers, powerpoint presentations, and looking stuff up on the internet. With that said what would you all suggest? It doesn't have to be something amazing, just efficent and NOT SLOW GRRRR. I hate slow computers. Price range is still up in the air, somewhere between I'd say $500-900. Any input would be appreciated.
HOMELESS CAMEL Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 Here is a thread from back in May about buying a laptop, should get you started in the right direction. :thumb: http://www.bluegrasspreps.com/showthread.php?t=122770
pthsfan Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 I have a Macbook and I love it. I think its worth the extra money just so you dont have to worry about viruses or your computer crashing
TomSportsHack Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 You can get a great Windows laptop for well under a grand these days --- mine's so good that I can play Halo 2 on it without a problem. Windows users should be using the free version of AVG Antivirus to stop viruses --- the company updates it regularly and it's not a resource hog like Norton or McAfee. I also strongly recommend Spybot and Ad Aware to fight spyware and adware. I love the Mac OS, but right now Mac hardware just costs too doggoned much.
sportsfan41 Posted December 7, 2007 Author Posted December 7, 2007 Unfortunately I'm just not a big fan of Macs at all.
cch5432 Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 I have a Dell Latitude, it works very well and I like it. I have to say that I don't like Macs either. Check these out: http://www.lauriemcguinness.com/
TomSportsHack Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 Most people I know who use Dell products hate them --- and that's with a capital HATE. I have a Gateway with an AMD X2 processor and an ATI Radeon X1150 video card (256Mbytes video RAM). No problems.
Italian Stallion Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 Unfortunately I'm just not a big fan of Macs at all. Your loss.
nkysportslegend Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 Your loss. Not really, he already said he didn't like them plus depending on what he needs the computer for a mac might not be the best option.
nkysportslegend Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 ^^ I just read what he would be using it for and a mac would be of no more use to him than a regular laptop.
MsKitty Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 I like my Inspiron. I really only use it for downloading music and saving pictures and getting online.
GaViking Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 I have a Macbook and I love it. I think its worth the extra money just so you dont have to worry about viruses or your computer crashing I'm hearing the Mac is the way to go from college age student's. The only bad thing I've found out is the computer doesn't mesh with studying for a Kaplan test.
halfback20 Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 What does a Mac have as in programs like Microsoft Word and such? Because most professors that I have had at EKU have wanted assignments turned in on Word if they are supposed to be turned in online.
