Top Pitchers In The 9th Region next Year?

Featured Replies

I know I am biased, but it will be tough to top the CovCath crew of (senior) Niehaus, (juniors) Nutini, Isler, and Sainola. Not too many teams have four pitchers all of whom have pitched in the Region coming back to pitch the following year and all of whom are pitchers, not throwers...... All of these young men are proven high school varsity pitchers....

Clearly CovCath has the lead when it comes to maturity and experience to go along with talent. I'll give Beehwood the two slot by just a nudge over Ryle with the caveat that Ryle's pitchers should develop quickly as the season progresses. Of course, so will Beechwood's and CovCath's. However, the old "any given day . . ." scenario can jump up and bite any one of these teams in a one-game district or regional game. I'm looking forward to a real fun and entertaining season this year.

There is a pitcher from CovCath who is reportedly transfering to Highlands after the Break...This may change some things....

There's a young man from Dayton by the name of James Jones who could be dominating if he can gain control over the fastball and his emotions. Two kids from Bellevue, senior Roger Babb and Junior Jimmie Scott could become top notch pitchers this season. Michael Walters from Williamstown had a very strong fall season and is developing very nicely. Adkins from Scott will definitely be among the better pitchers form the No. Ky. area as well. Cummins form Grant, Thompson from Lloyd also should be good hard throwers that have developed nicely. AJ Smith and Steven Hadden make Beechwood strong even without Elliott on the mound. Pitching will be a strong suit in No. Ky and the surrounding areas this year. Ryle, CovCath, Beechwood all have good, deep staffs but lots of teams have great #1's and even some #2's that can beat anybody on any given day. Looking forward to a great season this year.

You are correct, James can dominate IF he keeps his cool, He throws hard, but if he can trade 5mph for 5 degrees of cooler composure then watch out. I like what I saw in AJ Smith last year for the Beechies as a soph. He has a tall (6-6) frame and is lanky. Nothing but knees and elbows coming at the batter. My guess is that he throws mid to upper 80's this year with a long delivery... could be very deceptive to batters. Also heard that the Beechies are getting a soph transfer moving in from Indiana that can eat up a few innings. They also have a frosh, J Bertke, that threw some last year as an 8th grader. Ryle has a couple of good hurlers at the junior level as well that I saw in summer ball. Should be another great season.

If it happens to be one of the pitchers mentioned above by The Old Guy that could definitely make a difference.

I'll assume that if the CCH-to-HHS transfer happens, and it might be best for the young man, it will NEVER approach the BGP Hall-of-Fame subject of Mike Mitchell to HHS!

Nor it shouldn't. I agree with you that this move is the best thing for this young man.

It will definately make a huge difference. We always need pitchers!!!!

From what I understand, the kid has never pitched varsity ball.

Jimmy Scott will be a real good pitch for Bellevue this year. He has a lot of junk and has a very nice fast ball.

From what I understand, the kid has never pitched varsity ball.

That would be incorrect...

Heck, he pitched some varsity as a FROSH.

If is is the young man that I am thinking about, it is indeed the best move for him, and yes he did pitch Varsity....

You're right, I stand corrected. And it would be the best move.
