Who do you think will be the top pitchers in the Ninth region?

As for next year the top pitchers in the Region should be Matt Nichols (Dixie)and Cody Elliot (Beechwood).

 

There are some more that are good like Brandon Nutini (CovCath) and Thomas Towles (Highlands) but Cody and Matt are just at another level compared to these pitchers.

 

Both can let the ball go and have some nice offspeed pitches. They may throw some heat but dont get me wrong they are not "throwers" they are "pitchers" who actually place the ball around the zone fairly well.

What about kids from the smaller schools that actually have talent but cant be recognized because of their teams performances.

Daniel Hammons from Ludlow throws the ball well. He has good velocity, but must work on location. He's not wild, he just needs to work the corners better.

I saw this kid throw in a couple summer league games this past summer I do believe and came away very impressed. You can't teach speed and he seemed to have plenty and as you say needs to work on his location better. Probably needs to work on a breaking pitch because all good hitters sooner or later will catch up to the fastball. What year is this youngman going to be Senior? Junior?

Besides the obvious pitchers that have signed a NLI, there are some other nice 2008 pitchers. There are also nice pitchers that will be 2009 grads at NCC, CCH, Ryle, Beechwood etc. Not all of the pitchers will play D1, but several can pitch in the high level DIII programs or NAIA.

Holy Cross has several younger pitchers that should be outstanding in the next couple of years.

Daniel Hammons is a Junior this year. He now has a breaking ball that he used an awful lot this fall in the Cincinnati HS all-stars league.

I agree, Matt and Cody have proven themselves, everybody else will be working to do the same. I know HC has a pretty good soph that threw pretty well last year as a freshman. Austin Seabold and Dylan Campbell got some time on the mound for Ryle last year and have a shot at a successful season. Towells from Highlands, Nutini and Isler from CCH as well. Should be fun to see who steps up to the challange.

I definitely agree with the names above... There will also be some other players that will stand out as the season goes on especially from CovCath and Ryle.

There's a young man from Dayton by the name of James Jones who could be dominating if he can gain control over the fastball and his emotions. Two kids from Bellevue, senior Roger Babb and Junior Jimmie Scott could become top notch pitchers this season. Michael Walters from Williamstown had a very strong fall season and is developing very nicely. Adkins from Scott will definitely be among the better pitchers form the No. Ky. area as well. Cummins form Grant, Thompson from Lloyd also should be good hard throwers that have developed nicely. AJ Smith and Steven Hadden make Beechwood strong even without Elliott on the mound. Pitching will be a strong suit in No. Ky and the surrounding areas this year. Ryle, CovCath, Beechwood all have good, deep staffs but lots of teams have great #1's and even some #2's that can beat anybody on any given day. Looking forward to a great season this year.
