Ashland Daily Independent

Featured Replies

Does ADI put the preview online so people can print the rosters? And if so, where is it at? Thanks
My guess is the ADI wants to sell some newspapers today for those wanting to get the first look at the preview, and then will follow up by posting it online after today's issue is off the racks.

That's what I would do anyway... :thumb:

They've actually left the preview online for several months in previous years.

But they did win the region that included Ashland that year, right?

Russell had some very good teams during that 30 year period that you mentioned. Russell was in the regional tournament and even favored to win it in many of those years. It was frustrating but hardly sad.

Yes, you won the region once in 30+ years, congrats. At that average its nice to know I'll be long gone before it happens again!

You gonna pass away in your 50's?

Well, just saw the preview and just about every action picture featured APB players playing against the featured team. Gotta love the Daily Independent, they love those APB kids.

Whether you want to believe it or not the marquee game in the area usually involves Ashland. I did not say always, but usually. Even thought the Daily Independent is no long the Ashland Daily Independent it is located in Ashland, therefore it would make sense that they get a lot of coverage. Does the Herald Leader give equal coverage to Transylvania, and EKU and UK? I think not. Does anyone feel it is biased that Lexington would spend a majority of their coverage on the largest school in the area (UK), also the school with the largest number of supporters (UK), and the school with the most winning tradition (UK)?

You gonna pass away in your 50's?

 In 30 years I will be 84. Hopefully I can hang on that long!

I look for Ashland to be strong early this season.

They got all their players very early in the preseason along with 17 other football schools in the state.;)

LOL

Elliott County fans ought to be happy with this year's preview. Jonathan Ferguson on the cover (twice), Eef on the cover, team ranked #1 in the region, four players ranked in the top 10, six action shots from Rupp (three in color), a centerspread feature.

If all the previously mentioned reasons for not subscribing are legitimate, subscriptions in Sandy Hook should go through the roof...

^Somehow I don't think UTVolFan will be that enthused.

Golden Gopher,

You're 54? Thought you're avatar might have Sonny/Cher, Mick Jagger, maybe Bee Gees or 3 Dog Night.....instead of Browns player.

Guys, the paper is located in "Ashland" therefore it's going to focus more on Ashland athletics. Although they do their best to cover the other area schools, you have to expect some bias toward them covering ashland more than other teams. The Ironton Tribune is located in "Ironton" and the majority of the articles focus on the Ironton Tigers, although they do cover some of the local ohio schools as well, but not as much as Ironton athletics.

The point I'm attempting to make is that you have to expect that the Daily Indpendent will feature Ashland Athletics more than other schools just because of the fact the paper is located in Ashland. They do their best to cover all the schools in the area, and like someone pointed out earlier they are very short handed and spread very thin and can't always make it to every game.

I read the preview this morning and thought it was very well done. For those of you who are so upset with the Daily Independent, why don't you quit reading it? Don't subscribe to it and don't read it, then it won't be an issue for you anymore. How many times a year does the Greenup Co. paper do an article or story on a team outside of Greenup Co? They focus mainly on Greenup, Russell, and Raceland. Why? Because that's where they are located and those are the schools close to the coverage area.

Golden Gopher,

Great point Nets.

True, If Ashland wins by 1, then it is normally...."Ashland stomps....."

Some things dont change. My biggest problem with the Daily Independent is NO involvement in the Youth leagues.

This is a favorite of mine …

Ask yourself honestly: If the DI doesn't have the staff to get someone out to cover a big football game in the area — a VARSITY game, which takes priority — do you really think they're going to go to youth league games, that really are only of interest to the parents of the kids playing in those youth league games? They're not a 1,000 circulation weekly that needs to do youth league stuff to fill space (and that is what it is when a paper runs youth league stuff — filler).

If you want the youth league stuff in the paper, why not submit it yourself? Not just for the team your kid plays on, because that would be a display of bias, but for ALL the area youth league teams.

 In 30 years I will be 84. Hopefully I can hang on that long!

Wow, you age quickly! Progeria!

I agree with earlier post that some game should have covered Monday and Tuesday, they surely had 1 reporter available to do whatever game. I also understand that Ashland is going to get the majority of the coverage, but nothing stinks, I like to read about other teams during the season, especially regional teams.
