TomcatPride Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 This is not a typo. In short, Frankfort dressed 10 and one seemed to be playing with a bad wrist, and those 10 looked to be very, very young and inexperienced. Also, they may be missing some players on the football team. Whatever the case, this (obviously) was a complete mismatch. Dunbar is a senior laden team that all played last year, and they looked like men against boys out there. The halftime score was 53-1. Dunbar tried to ease off, but they kept their main players in during the first half, and they like to run and play defense. They couldn't help themselves at times. As a sidenote, I think Dunbar may be a very underrated team. They've got two very capable guards in Hudson and Johnson that can both score and play defense. Rogers and the Webb brothers are athletic and can rebound down low. This is basically the same team that greatly underachieved last year, and I wouldn't be surprised if they made some noise and pulled some upsets in the loaded 11th Region.
Wireman Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 Its a sad day when you score 8 points in a 32-minute game.
Deuce41 Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 I saw this score on the KHSAA scoreboard and just could not believe it, I feel bad for the young men from Frankfort. No matter if Dunbar tried not to run it up, you stil have to feel bad for those young men, I mean how do get them to come back and play the next game? Tough, tough situation.
mcpapa Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 Its a sad day when you score 8 points in a 32-minute game. ...or one point in a 16-minute half. Tough on those kids, and I know teams get a lot of grief for what APPEARS to be running up the score. But sometimes the mismatch is so bad it can't be helped.
OYPreps Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 As long as Hudson at 5'10 is shooting layups the shots will fall. Outside of 5 feet is another story. Is it true though? Just 8 points? A kid could have hit a 3 with 10 seconds left in the game for Frankfort and been leading scorer. Wow.
mcpapa Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 Do any of Frankfort's football players - who are still playing, I believe - also play basketball?
Wireman Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 You're telling me that with all the talent they have on the football field, they can't field a player that is capable of scoring at the high school level? That is insane to me. There are many players that would score at least 10 points playing 1 against 5. Perhaps the football players will join the team after the playoffs. I feel bad for the kids that played in this game.

True, Hudson's shot isn't very reliable, but I think he sees the floor really well and can play some tight defense when inspired. Johnson has a much better shot, but he is a small guard too. Big teams may give them trouble, but I think they can get up and down the floor with the best of them, and their full court press may give most teams trouble. What do you think about Webb and Rogers? They've both got some length and athleticism and will block a lot of shots, but their offensive game needs work. I think Dunbar could be one of the best teams defensively in the state, in my opinion.
CoachBuckett Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 The basketball team is still play Football. What you saw tonight was the freshmen and JV team

I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't have to pull up 7th and 8th graders to have enough players for this game. Hopefully their football team wins this week and moves on to the finals.
oldonetechnique Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 8 points has to be some kind of record.
jlaw Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 But IF most of, or in this case all, your varsity is playing football why not call the other team and set up a make up date? I blame the administration if this is true.

I blame the administration if this is true. This was my thinking as well. Although I'm not sure who would be to blame for not even attempting to do this if it in fact wasn't attempted.
Master of the Hardwood Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 This kind of game will happen a lot with the smaller schools that are still involved in the football playoffs. Some teams are just playing a couple varsity players and the rest are 8th graders. They don't have much choice until football is over, that is why it's a good idea to start the season 2 weeks later, to avoid things like this.

That is why I edited my last post. I was thinking that most of the upperclassmen are still playing football. Still though, 8 points is very, very low. I'm sure they'll trade these early season basketball games for a state championship in football, however.:ylsuper:
