P.L. Dunbar 87 Frankfort 8

Featured Replies

I would be interested from someone there as to how the game actually played out. It is hard to blame Dunbar for showing up and playing if the game is still on their schedule. After all these kids get only so many games in their high school career, and one was just wasted. However, if they are full court pressing with a 40-2 lead or something like that, maybe they should/could have been working on other things. For a team to only get 8 points, I have to think they didn't get a whole lot of shots off.

Mike Fields wrote the information below in today's Lexington-Herald Leader. Maybe this will clear up a lot of questions.

It was not a misprint. Dunbar's boys opened the basketball season with an 87-8 victory over Frankfort. Dunbar led 34-0 early in the second quarter. After Frankfort hit a free throw, the host Bulldogs went on another 34-0 streak to make it 68-1 midway through the third quarter. Frankfort, which missed 29 of 32 shots and made 28 turnovers, was missing several key players, including star E.J. Fields, who are still with the Panthers' football team that faces Beechwood in the Class A semifinals tonight.

Thanks Jaclyn! 32 shots ought to be enough to get more than 8 points.

It's not the staffs fault for that so don't go pointing fingers at people. Understand that this game was scheduled before the season even began. Who new the football team would even make the playoffs this year? Or play this deep? Tough loss for FHS, but know one is to blame for this.

Just for the record, the FHS football team/coach/AD all could reasonably forsee going this far in the playoffs this year. It is not a suprise to them or any of the 1A football fans.

Dubar is a good basketball team. They would beat alot of freshman and JV squads by 80+ points. I would say that Dunbar could have pressed and beat this Frankfort team by 120 points if they wanted to run up the score.

When you sign contracts you have to play or pay. With the financial crisis FHS has been through, a forfeit probably wasn't an option.

Even if FHS had Fields and others back the outcome of this game would have been the same. I would say Dunbar could beat Frankfort by 40+ points when the panthers have everyone back on the hardwood.
