Newport Central Catholic 28 Corbin 16 (2A)

Featured Replies

Corbin had a TE run a straight up streak off the line and was wide open, it slipped through his hands on what might have been a go ahead TD if no one caught him.

Tough break for that kid but the Hounds have no reason to hang there heads, they played a very sound game.

Kind of feel bad for kids with their season ending and sitting on a bus for 3 hours thinking about it.

Hopefully it will make them stronger and give them inspiration to work hard in the off season.

Well, well you kind of got the feeling it was going to be "one of those bad nights" for the Breds when they stopped Corbin cold on the first series and then proceeded to rough the kicker on a punt that went maybe 15 yards. And its not like they almost blocked it. The first guy there actually held up and did not hit the punter but 2 or 3 others did.

Corbin would take advantage of that and another personal foul and smash the ball in for a 7-0 lead. NCC would counter to make it 7-7 and one would think maybe things would settle down. But NCC continue to play awful and Corbin continued to play smart and took a 10-7 lead.

Then add in all the high snaps that mess up all the blocking schemes. And then snap one so far over the QB's head it is almost physically impossible. And then try the Breds tried to pick it up instead of falling on it. Corbin once again took advantage of a blown coverage and scored to lead 16-7. You know it was a bad half for the Breds when they only put up 7 points and did not have to punt until 40 seconds were left in the half.

Second half Breds played better and Corbin made a big mistake jumping offsides on a NewCath 4th and 2 from the 7 giving the Breds a first down. Breds really had to work for the TD and on 4th down finally cut the lead to 16-14. Uncle MO showed up on the Breds side and they would score again to on a long run to take a 21-16 lead.

Still Corbin hung tough on offense and defense and had every chance to take the lead on another blown coverage but the receiver could not hang on to the ball.

Finally faced with 1st and 10 from their own 2 with just under 3 minutes to go, the Corbin offense could not get anything going against an inspired NCC defense and the Breds did not allow a yard taking over on the Corbin 2. NCC would punch it in on 3rd down to take a 28-16 lead with 2 minutes to go.

Overall these teams are pretty equal and NCC was fortunate to not get buried in the first half when they played so horribly and Corbin played so solid.

Corbin has some athletes that stick pretty darn well. And the QB throws a nice ball and actually was a lot more mobile than what was expected. Plus Corbin was every bit as good on special teams. NewCath has made a lot of mistakes since playing pretty well against quality teams Campbell Co and Beechwood to close the regular season. Just have not been that sharp since then on offense and the defense has played well enough for them to win.

Corbin's defense is tough, with a more potent offense they get a ring. Glad we win. Way too many mistakes for the breds. Breds keep winning ugly. I would say Corbin had a lot to do with that. If we ever decide to bring our A game we will be fine. This sloppy play is starting to give me chest pains. Good Luck Breds:irked:

Hopefully it will make them stronger and give them inspiration to work hard in the off season.

Very true Keep your heads up. Corbin is not a team I would want the Breds to have to run into anytime in the near future thats for sure. I don't have any fingernails left after this one. Well I am going to bed. Congrats to the Breds on the win and to the Hounds on a hard fought game and a great season. Everybody bring their Bayer asprin next week I hear it helps with heart attacks. Good night everyone get home safe!

Corbin, great season. :thumb: Tough to lose, but you played a very tough opponent. (Been there, done that, lol!)

NCC way to go! Bring it home!:dancingpa:dancingpa

Kues made many good fakes to kelly and then took off with it in the second half

#8 and #20 from Corbin are very good athletes. #3 had a very strong arm. Now that we won I can freely say this....the refs that we had were horrible. Pangallo juggled a pass in the flat, NEVER EVER had possession and they called it a fumble. He never made an attempt to fall on the ball b/c it was such an obvious drop. Before that they call illegal man downfield on a screen pass???? The ball never crossed the line of scrimmage. Know the rules. Anyway, Corbin brought it to NewCath's D-Line the first half and NewCath did not respond. On offense, well...it got better. The option keeper was a huge play for NewCath. Kues had to have at least 130 yards rushing tonight. It seemed like Corbin had practiced all week to stop Kelly b/c they jumped that option right away throughout the third quarter. Anytime that you have 4 TO's still win this deep into the season you take it and run. Corbin had a lot of intensity. NewCath needs to bring that same level next week!

Tell us how you really feel Mex:D

Way to go Breds...Back to Back to Back!:thumb:

#18 for Corbin played a very strong game as well

The fumble call was ridiculously bad. They discussed it and still gave it to them. You are right. This is two games in a row with 4+ turnovers, that won't fly from here on out.

At the beginning of the second half there was a late hit flag and they didnt mark off the penalty... the just marked it where he stepped out of bounds... The refs were bad tonight

I was wondering about that, I wasn't sure if they picked up the flag or what?

I meant to ask and forgot, where were these refs from?
