How do you decide if you're in stocks or mutual funds?

I have both my investment people at the Bank do it for me.

What do you mean?

I'd like to get into it but dont really know much about that stuff. I'd like to learn tho and start investing. Guess I have a reason to go back and finish my business degree.

I think what he's getting at is stocks (individual) and mutual funds (group of individual stocks).

I have stock in my company, but my 401k is mostly mutual funds.

How do you decide if you're in stocks or mutual funds?
Determined by the amount of risk, I'm willing to take and return on investment. Certain sectors, tend to be more stable and others, reflect current activities ongoing.

Balance portfolio, of stocks, mutual funds, cash and varying sectors.

I'm in. A few individual stocks and bonds but the bulk is in mutual funds. Fairly aggressive at the moment but in the next 10-12 years will look at going more conservative as I near retirement.

How do you determine if you're going to take your available investment funds and put them in either a stock or into a mutual fund?

First thing I recommend, is you decide how much risk you're willing to take and then determine growth, moderate or high.

If you don't currently have one, a Broker/adviser you feel very comfortable with and will listen to your approach, regarding your money.

Google was a good buy 6 months ago.....a very good buy.

This is very sound advice.

I'll add my two cents as well.

You must decide what type of investor you want to be. Are you going to trade daily or just put your money into a fund and leave it there. Kind of goes along with the risk factor......... I just see and talk to so many people that panic when their fund goes down two days after they buy it. They call me and want to pull all of their money out, right now! My response is usually something along the lines of, "well you didn't honestly think it would go up every day did you? Because if there were funds like that I sure as heck wouldn't be here"

I've got a balanced portfolio of cash, stock & mutual funds...that I just leave in. I know what is happening by my quarterly reports.
