Got a little mathematical and decided to crunch some numbers. Combining the Cantrall, Massey and CalPreps rating and taking the average, this is how the state's top teams rank in each class.

And in case anyone asks ... I didn't use the Litkenhous Ratings because I think they're rather unreliable, certainly more so than the three I used.

Copycat...lol...j/k.

You forgot about the LitRatings. Wonder if that would have made some kind of difference? just a thought.

I don't blame you. You just know somebody would have mentioned the Lit ratings.

I heard that.

west, can you give us some insight on the numbers and how you did this. In other words, how did you make them all apples to apples?

An example ... Newport Catholic:

Cantrall Rating ... 81.3

Massey power rating ... 20.50 (not the overall rating, but the power rating that is point-based)

CalPreps Rating ... 33.0

Add them up to 134.80 and divide by three ... gives you a rating of 44.93

Doesn't that method skew the numbers toward the Cantrell Ratings (or as many of our Eastern Kentucky friends call them, the Can't Tell Ratings).

Not at all ... the other ratings can go into the negatives. They're just on different scales, so to speak.

Litkenhouse used to be used to determine playoff spots if needed. Are they that outdated?

When was that? The Dickinson Ratings was used from 1959 through the late 1970s before every school was required to play all teams in a district.

By the way, wouldn't it be great instead of playing playoffs in each class, just take the top two teams per class in westsider's poll, have them wait a month, and then play a title game.

You may have a future as a college president ...

Great idea! It can't get any better than your plan. Who really wants a playoff any way. LOL.

You would be right; my mistake.
