One thing I don't like about the current set up, or the old one for that matter, is that the pairings in the larger class is always set up for an all Louisville final. Sure, St. X and Trinity are the class programs of 6A this season and they usually were of 4A in the old system. The other classes are set up by region, with the East vs. West final. The Louisville schools are usually going to win the largest class championship but I don't see any reason to assure that they do. You will never see a Pikeville / Hazard final.

Doesn't make any sense to me? The trophy is going to be in Louisville 90% of the time regardless but as long as it is set up this way, when T doesn't meet X or M until the finals, it's probably going to be 99%. 10 out of 12 years it is a moot point but very few 6A teams have any shot whatsoever if one of the big three is not knocked out in the earlier rounds.

How would you geographically divide the state, and keep the numbers equal on both sides? Don't worry, I'll wait.

Question about round 3...I notice it says high seed, odd/low district. Does this mean that when the even district meets odd in the region finals that the high seed hosts??? Or does the odd district host regardless of their seed??? Hypothetically a 4 seed could win out and host a 1 seed if the odd district hosts regardless.

In round 3, the high seed hosts.

 

If both seeds are the same, the odd district hosts (because this is the odd year)

 

If both districs are odd, or if both are even, then the low seed hosts in the odd years and the high seed hosts in the even years.

I like and thoroughly agree with this post. I think top 2 teams make the playoffs and we go down to 5 classes. That cuts the playoff to 80 teams.

I would agree to the move to 5 classes and 4 teams make the district if seeding is involved. Then 160 teams make the playoffs but the regular season means something.

 

Does anyone know if the brackets with Saturday finals will move to Saturday games in the earlier rounds?

I just did the average winning percentage of the 4 seeds in all 6 classes. The overall average in the state for the 4 seeded teams was an embarrassing 31%. There were 5 teams that made the playoffs with an 0-10 record! Here's the breakdown

 

1A - 29-50 36%

2A - 12-68 15%

3A - 33-47 41%

4A - 18-62 22%

5A - 32-48 40%

6A - 26-54 32%

 

I still dont know what was accomplished by going to 6 classes. The only thing I can see is it prolongs a teams miserable 0'fer season, and takes the glory out of a hard fought season, trying to make the playoffs!

Wow, that’s a lot of number crunching! :thumb: How long until a key player from a serious contender, say a 10-0 or 9-1 number one seed gets hurt and misses the remainder of the playoffs in one of these first round meaningless games? Granted teams won’t want to play their starters the entire game, but they do have to make sure they don’t loose the game.

Let's go to 7A and include the Toy Bowl winners and Pop Warner champs! This is so lame... Butler having to play X again after the tough season they have had. Geeze! Is Greenwood a 1 seed with a 5-5 record? Holy Cow! Plus the likely X and Manual game as a second rounder is truly a shame.

I have printed all brackets and fill them out. Here's my picks as the State winners.
