Terrel Holstein for Central is a absolute stud. Nobody from Highlands early in the game could run with him period. This kid was 7-11, always open!!!

Nice game BIRDS. For the fans who ventured down to Louisville - we sure got our money's worth. The BIRDS played a very good team this evening. A team that gave the O-line all that they could handle for 3 QTRs.

 

The team rallied back with confidence and poise and ended the regular season perfectly. This come from behind experience may just come handy down the stretch to the Pizza box.

Central's players made a huge mistake when nearly their entire team rushed onto the field after a brief altercation between two players at their sideline. All that did was fire up the Birds and the result was 21 straight points. Way to find the motivation and will to win Birds! I'm feeling championship #17!

I know i'm the biggest armchair Qb according to some people on here but it is pretty simple especially in high school football that when you have a receiver that is 6'-1" and a db that is 5'-6" it's time to line them up and throw a simple fade. This is high school people, that db has no chance to defend against the bigger receiver. Seen it too many times. Why do you think Jared was so successful when he threw to Derek Smith. Because he knew that the average db couldn't cover the bigger player. The running game is great but when a team gives you something, you take it. We did not try the quick hit pass to the wide out one time tonight. If we did, sorry i missed it. When you start finding weaknesses on someone's pass defense with a strong running game like we have, that's called a balanced attack. Sorry, we just don't do it!!!

I also thought when Central kept their multiple seniors out at halftime to have senior night was a killer!!!! When did they make adjustments. That was definately interesting.:eek:

My mother looked at me at the beginning of the game and said, "they have an eight lane track, it's going to be a long night". She was right. They were big, and that's and understatement, and they were fast.

 

All planets were colliding when Highlands was down 13 to 0 and Cov. Cath. was reportedly beating X. I swear I saw the moon drop from the sky.

 

OK, Highlands survived and congrats on the 10 and 0 season, but now it is down to business. Every game counts. Go out and take State.

We also would elect to let Central get lined up on defense before we hiked the ball. Hope this is a wake up call and decide that it is one game at a time from here on out. The Birds control their destiny now!!!

Congratulations on an undefeated regular season. Coaches, players, cheerleaders, Moms & Dads, and all the Bluebird fans. Enjoy this, but there is more work to do. Lets go for it all.

There's a reason for that you ninny (). The o lineman have to number the defensive players to assign blocking duties. Until the defensive gets set, you can't do that.

 

Well, why doesn't the D keep moving around and thus force delay of game penalties, you ask. There is a failsafe response to that but its not for publication.

As to the game, while I don't mean to take anything away from Central (they have a nice squad and some very nice players-but they won't beat Belfry in the championship) this was the flattest game I've seen Highlands play in a long time. Took the opening drive and move it the length of the field into their redzone and then failed to convert on short 4th and 1. Sorry folks, with our o line and running backs, that should never happen. After that drive we moved it two other times into the redzone and also failed to pick up points. We had holding calls and offside penalties stop ourselves. It just seemed that we were being very lackadaisical. And Central is too good to do that and expect to win.

 

As for the play calling, we can continue to disagree on whether we should pass more or not. All I know is that come gut check time in the 4th quarter, we ran the ball right down their throats with Hurtt, Cecil and Conner. There is no reason we could not have done that the entire game had we been more focused and eliminated the stupid penalties and mental mistakes. We let Central stay in this game for 3 quarters and it almost cost us.

 

In hindsight, this was perhaps a good game in that we accomplished several things: we learned we cannot just go through the motions and expect to beat a decent team; we had a game where we reached down inside and made a nice comeback (very proud of the Birds for that); and we finished the regular season undefeated. Lots to be happy with this morning. But there are lots to be unhappy with and I imagine film session this morning is going to be covering those items in great detail.

 

Congrats Birds but its time to get and stay focused for 5 more games.

This sounds like it was a game that was well worth the trip down. I am glad the Birds pulled it out and finished the Reg season Undefeated. I wonder if the Birds cranked up a little Motley Crue Home Sweet home for the ride North. Nah, those guys werent a blip on the radar when that came out. You know how that tune goes Boom.....I'm on my way...Im on my way.......

Why did the 'Birds wait so long to go to the no huddle? Central obviously couldn't handle them when they finally did. I think had the 'Birds gone to this more in the first half, they could've worn Central down a little earlier. Was it by design that we waited?

 

How about the long passes by each QB? Cecil running to his right, side steps a would be tackler stops and fires a 40yd(?) strike. Central's QB just steps back and launched one of the best passes I've ever seen in a high school game and hit the wideout in stride.

 

I was a little more encouraged with the passing game than I had been prior to this game. I'm with LN on this one now, if we HAD to pass, I think that we would be ok.

 

The turnover on the punt return was just horrible. Catch the ball, then run.

 

The kicker had a rough game. Noticed in the pre-game he wasn't fairing to well and it carried over to the game. Hope that gets straightened out quick.
