According to today's Paducah Sun, the KHSAA has ruled one of Marshall's players ineligible and vacated the state title. Marshall plans to appeal.

Is the KHSAA's tranfer paperwork that tough to figure out or are ADs just not taking the time to complete it. It seems like more and more teams are being penalized because ADs can't get the paperwork right.

It seems a bit of overkill to strip a state title because of the paperwork. The kid transferred from Florida, not Calloway County.

The timing of this, is odd. Couldn't the paperwork been reviewed, prior to the State Tournament or was this brought up, after the completion.

 

Seems prior to it drags/bogs down at times but after the fact, an expedited review takes place. Any idea, on the time line in reaching this decision.

If they are stripped of the regional title also, should they not have gone to state. Should the third place team in the Regional Tournament have gone to state? It just depends on who's score was used and how close the team scores were. Any details on their regional scores from the 1st region?

Then if it is brought up after the state tournament, why should it matter at all?

They are stipping them of their state tournament title. Why couldn't they take the regional title from them as well??

Also, if this stays the same they will not name a team as winner for 2007.

I thought that if violations are not discovered until after post season play begins that it could have no bearing on the outcome. Much like teams that play in too many games. If it is found out before district then they are DQ'ed but if found out later, they are penalized the next season. I am very surprised at this.

I wouldn't think that would be the case, in any HS sport, as no repercussion for using the player would result.

 

If they penalized for the following season, than any accomplishments, records or achievements would stand, but were done wrongfully. Not sure the method or procedure on Golf but I can see record, accomplishments and any titles, being modified for that season.

I had heard from the father of a Bowling Green player that Paducah Tighlman had questions about the players eligibility well before the state championship. If this is so how does this all not get resolved before the player in question makes it to the state tournament? Sounds like the second place team was having trouble dealing with their second place finish. Hope Marshall County can appeal this succesfully.

Concerns are one thing but until reported for the KHSAA to consider/investigate, they are never known.

They can take the regional title too if they want assumming the player in question played. And every regular season win too. But that still doesn't get the 3rd place team region team anything other than maybe the region runner-up trophy unless they just rule it vacant. It isn't going to get them in the state tourney now and isn't going to alter the state tourney results other than the state title being vacated.
