November 1, 200718 yr I haven't seen any discussion on this possibility. What do you think? Does anyone think this happens? Current reports say the Lakers want Luol Deng, Ben Gordon, Tyrus Thomas and Joakim Noah, but the Bulls won't give up that much. I don't blame them...I also think Kobe would veto that trade, because he'd basically be in the same situation. He'd be the only real threat on the roster. The Bulls reportedly are willing to offer two deals...Noah, Gordon and Thomas for Kobe...or...Deng and one of the other three (Noah, Gordon or Thomas) for Kobe. I honestly think those last two deals make sense for both sides...the Lakers are going nowhere with Kobe and the management has proven to be inept since Jerry West departed. Either of those deals give them some very good young talent to start to rebuild around...while, it doesn't completely deplete Chicago's roster. It would give the Bulls that marquee guy who can take games over and open things up for the rest of the roster, and they'd still have Big Ben, Heinrich and one or two of the other guys mentioned. I wouldn't blame the Lakers for waiting to see if they couldn't get more for Kobe, but I seriously doubt they will. Considering that he can veto any trade, I think one of those packages with Chicago is as good as they're going to get. They really need to get something for Kobe and I think right now is the time for them to act...his stock is probably as high as it's going to get. Otherwise, they'll toil in mediocrity and Kobe will eventually be gone and they'll have nothing for it.
November 1, 200718 yr Ric Bucher has a story that there was a 3-way trade being discussed and that the Lakers would end up with BOTH Ron Artest and his buddy Ben Wallace. Hello!!!
November 1, 200718 yr Saw a report this morning that said Kobe is the hangup as he has vetoed the trade to Chicago. Reason why is that he wants Deng to stay in Chicago if he goes to Chicago. Seems to be that Deng is the key player that the Lakers want for Kobe. Chicago has offered Deng and Kobe rejected the trade to Chicago because Deng wouldn't be there. Sounds like a Catch-22 situation.

Sounds like a Catch-22 situation. If I were the Lakers I'd take either of those packages...Noah, Thomas and Gordon would be a good get for Kobe, IMO. From Kobe's perspective, I don't understand why he'd want Deng to remain so bad...suppose Deng and one of the others go to LA. He's going to be on a roster with Big Ben, Heinrich and 2 of those three...let's say Gordon and Noah for argument's sake. That seems like a pretty strong group to me...especially in the east. Maybe Kobe is waiting for David Stern to step in and say, "OK. Enough is enough. We can't have Kobe Bryant on a bad team. We're going to force the Lakers to give him to Chicago."

IMO, I think it would be stupid of Chicago to get rid of all those players for Kobe.
November 1, 200718 yr I was surprised that Kobe is the ONLY NBA player with a no-trade clause. His contract has all kinds of ridiculous things in it that no one has.
November 1, 200718 yr Deng, Gordon To Become Free Agents http://www.nba.com/news/496337.html They will resign. They would be stupid not to. They might well become the next Pistons, with no real SUPERSTAR to say, but good production from ALL of the starters and good production off the bench. They have about 3 guys that would be secondary starts in other cities in Deng, Gordon, and Hinrich. They have Tyrus Thomas progressing, Johkim Noah coming off the bench to help give Big Ben some rest. They will win a championship in 2 to 3 more years of progression if they do not make this deal.

You really think the Bulls w/o a significant upgrade of a superstar will win the title? I think Duncan, Garnett, Kobe, Lebron, DWade, Melo, Dirk, Amare and Nash, and some others will have something to say about that for the next 2-3 years.
