October 29, 200718 yr With his run-in with the Florida ownere, is Girardi the reincarnation of Billy Martin? You know the Yankees timed this to the point to take away some of the media shine on the Red Sox World Series Championship.
October 29, 200718 yr That's Steinbrenner for you. I'm surprised, that Mattingly wasn't selected but loyalty and winning, often aren't intertwined.
October 29, 200718 yr Author That's Steinbrenner for you. I'm surprised, that Mattingly wasn't selected but loyalty and winning, often aren't intertwined. Mattingly has said he will not be a coach.
October 29, 200718 yr I'll take it. I doubt he'll keep Mattingly as bench coach but I like Girardi...
October 29, 200718 yr Mattingly has said he will not be a coach. Was this during the consideration of Manager position or after, Girardi was named? I'm not sure, why anyone would want to Manage under Steinbrenner.
October 29, 200718 yr Author Was this during the consideration of Manager position or after, Girardi was named? . I'm guessing both.
October 29, 200718 yr I was dead wrong, I really thought Donny B. would get the job. Shocked. It's amazing what one good year, while alienating everyone above you on the depth chart, will get you. I predict implosion. Maybe Dusty can lure Donny here since we are fairly close to his hometown. Just hoping...he'd be a great addition in the clubby.
October 29, 200718 yr That's who I thought that the Yanks would go with. Girardi may last 5 seasons, depending on his and the team's performance. With ARod gone, it may take 5 years, though.
October 29, 200718 yr I think Girardi was a good pick at this point. I really don't think the Yankees current situation would have been the best for Mattingly to start off in, but I could be wrong. I think he'll be their manager at some point...just not now. I don't think the timing was right. Following Torre won't be easy, so I think they need a guy like Girardi with his supposedly prickly personality to deal with everything that comes with the job. I don't expect him to last though...

So which is it? Is it a "good pick" or "he won't last?"
October 29, 200718 yr So which is it? Is it a "good pick" or "he won't last?" If Georgie Boy is involved in the decisions it could be both. A good pick who won't last.:thumb:
October 29, 200718 yr I'm going to ask everyone, other than he appears to be sharp dresser, serious demeanor and former players, what has he done Manager/Coaching wise, worthy of selection to run the Yankees?
