Johnson Central is a 5A school and only has one middle school, Johnson County Middle School, which is located on the same campus as the high school.

I don't think this scenerio is at all uncommon, as most of the bigger publics have one or two large feeder middle schools? Up here in NKY that's pretty much the case, and even though the Catholic schools may have multiple feeders, they are mostly rather small (and are K-8 elementary schools as well) in comparison to their county brethern and also lose a lot of kids to the tuition-free public HS's. Not sure you can really "read much" into the number of middle schools feeding a high school??

Augusta has one, school is k-12. We do get some kids from St. Augustine School in Augusta, they tend to filter out to St. Patrick (Maysville), Bracken Co. and Mason Co. St. Augustine kids play at Augusta during 6th-8th grades.

Madison Central has two middle schools, Madison Middle and Clark-Moores.

 

Madison Southern only has one that I know of, Foley Middle.

I believe HHS draws pretty well from the Catholic schools and it begins in the 6th grade now for middle school. Back in the day when I played, 3 starters were from St. Thomas and 2 from St. Catherine. But that was before AAU, etc...and the Catholic Grade school league was far superior. AND ST. Thomas had there own intramural league. The Catholic schools are down in #'s in Ft. Thomas...those kid are somewhere. Not too many FT. T kids playing @ NCC. (2-Gieslers'...who else?)

Some Ft. T kids are at St. Therese (e.g. Dawn) but NCC b-ball still has some from the Ft.T parishes (e.g. Bueter, Gesenghues).

They tend to filter more toward Augusta and Bracken though.

 

So in a sense Augusta and Bracken have two feeder schools.

Williamsburg has roughly 700 kids K thru 12. We only have one middle school and do not sympathise with your disadvantage.

Leslie County has 1 Middle School.

Breathitt Co. has just one middle school, SMS and its all we have but we usually get all or most of the better athletes to play for Breathitt Co. High. Seems as tho this freshman class isn't what it usually is, i think only one or two are in practice at this time, last year we had a bumper crop,8-9 good freshman's coming from middle school with two starting for Breathitt High School, I must say they have as good bunch of athletes in 8th grade as we have had in a while, and same goes for their football program, they were loaded also didn't do as well but lots good ones that will help both our programs at Breathitt High School.

I know there is a boy at St. Thomas we'd love to have over at HMS, should be a top notch athlete up on the hill. Plays AAU ball with several of the Highlands kids. Pete Collopy, write it down. Size, speed, aggressiveness and could grow to 6'3 or 6'4.

When talking about athletics, I dont think they get too many of the great athletes from the Catholic grade schools. Maybe you can name a few in the past that came to HHS in the 9th from ST. Thomas or St. Cath. Those boys have NCC usually branded on their hineys. sp?

 

I agree, most tend to change in the 7th grade. I remember Randy Stegman and Keith Bischoff leaving St. Catherine's after the 6th grade to go to Highlands Middle School.

Rockcastle County only has one feeder middle school (6-8) with that being Rockcastle County Middle School.

 

There are also three Elementary Schools that feed into RCMS with those being Mount Vernon Elementary, Brodhead Elementary, and Roundstone Elementary.

If I'm not mistaken, Clay County has one middle school but a bunch of smaller elementary schools though. You should see one of their elementary school basketball games that are sometimes played at the HS before a girls/boys doubleheader...there are sometimes enough people there to fill the lower half of the gymnasium.
