I think a plus one would be better. Keep the 4 bowls as is. In even years let the Rose and Sugar Bowl pit the top 4 BCS teams against each other...odd years the Orange and Fiesta do it. Use a 1 vs. 4 and 3 vs. 2 format and the winners play a week later in the "BCS Title Game". To me, that would eliminate a large portion of the complaining. Obviously, there will be times when the #5 team complains, but for the most part, I think this setup would produce an undisputed national champion across the nation...and that's all we're really looking for.

 

It seems so simple. I honestly think it will happen at some point. I don't think we'll ever see a "playoff". And, that's fine with me...what makes college football so great right now is how important the regular season is...the plus one wouldn't change that...a playoff would to some degree. With a 16 team playoff, games like LSU vs. Florida this year wouldn't be as big. You lose, you still have a great shot at making the playoff.

 

The plus one makes the most sense to me...it gives us a national champion that nearly everyone would be OK with and it doesn't take anything away from the regular season.

I would like a big playoff. Either 16 of 32 teams. That would be pretty amazing.

Imo the best that we can hope for is a plus 1 game. Have two of the BCS games put #1 vs. #4 and #2 vs. #3. Then the winners face off in one more Bowl/National title game. We may or may not see that. Fact is that the AD's, schools, coorporate sponsors, host cities, etc.. are all dragging in too many $$$$ to change it. Imo we will never see an 8 team or higher playoff.

 

Having said that I am not so sure that we should.

I am all for the plus 1 concept but as it is the Regular season is a twelve week playoff. A team loses two and they are out of the running for sure. Lose 1 and depending on other teams they may still have a chance.

Here we go:

 

Have the regular season start one week earlier than normal

 

Top 8 teams in the BCS make the playoff system

 

First 2 rounds of the playoffs are at the end of the season. (Since the season started one week earlier, that means the playoffs would only go one more week later in that year.)

 

Then have the two teams who made it to the finals of the playoff play in the National Championship Bowl game in January like always. Then you could still have the other 4 main bowls, and let them have their normal tie ins to the bowls. Like with the Rose Bowl having the Big 10 and Pac 10.

 

So this way we dont have to worry about the students playing games during finals. We still get to keep all the bowl games which bring in money. But we also get to crown a TRUE national champion...

Do it like 1-AA. Have 16 teams based on the BCS rankings. 1st rounds play at home sites. Then Use the big four bowls for semi-finals. Play championship game anywhere you want because it will make $$$$$$

I truly think that the NCAA does not want to find a solution to it. If they did they would have done it a loooooooong time ago.

 

They found a way to get a 65th team into the NCAA basketball tournament did'nt they?
