I left with about 5min. left in the 4th and it was 41-14 Birds.....

Oldcamel...Can you elaborate on Guy's performance. TeWildcat faithful are hoping he will change his mind and become a Wildcat. Does he play both ways? Do you have any info on the size of the LCH quarterback?

speed speed speed.

He does play both ways....Very nice size and great speed....I thought LexCath would use him a little more in their game plan....:confused:

He was all over the field in the first half. He returned punts and kicks, to begin with, he does a lot at WR, but I also saw him a couple of times take a direct snap from the center and take off with it. On defense, he is a blitzing machine... He came from everywhere rushing our quarterback and got us a few times. He is a big boy (about 6'2" from where I was sitting, possibly 170?) and he will cause trouble for anybody in some way or another. I'd love to have him chasing down some passes from our quarterback. It also doesn't hurt to be able to run an honest 4.5ish in full pads.

As for LCH's QB, he seemed to also be about 6'2" with a very solid arm. He threw a beautiful long ball about 40 yards without even trying. If the recievers wouldn't have missed a couple of balls right in the "bread-basket" across the middle, he would have had much better numbers.

The most underrated player on the field for LCH was their runningback, Israel? He ran through some tackles as well as pulled away from a couple of defensive lineman (running away from HHS' linemen is a lot tougher than it sounds). He seemed to get the bulk of the carries as well as the majority of the rushing yards.

Nice win by the Birds against a pretty good LexCath football team. At the beginning of the game, LexCath had some success stopping the run by puting an extra linebacker in the middle (it was the same defense they used against us in 05 with much success). Since we man block, the extra linebacker often went "unaccounted" for and made a lot of tackles in the first quarter.

From what I observed (I haven't had a chance to watch the tape yet) it seemed that we adjusted our formations which required them to move the extra linebacker out of the middle which made it much easier to run the ball. Certainly in the second half we ran the ball much, much better. I liked Dale's call to throw the quick outs, with Cecil getting rid of the ball before the extra blitzing linebacker could get to him. Draper had some nice catches.

Our running backs ran the ball hard (particularly Hurtt) and very effectively in the second half. Line did a nice job also.

I thought our defense against the run was very good. Israel is a pretty shifty runner, but really didn't have too much success running the ball against us. That was good to see particularly when you consider that Lex Cath has a very good, talented and experienced O line. Well done defensive linemen and lbers. Isreal didn't have any big runs that I can recall (which I doubt is the case against many opponents). We've still got some work to do in pass defense however. Crossing patterns gave us fits and no doubt we benefitted from some dropped balls. The long completion on the razzle dazzle reverse pass should have been an interception: we have to go get the ball and not let it come down to the receiver. But even then, Lex Cath has a very good and sophisticated pass offense, so to hold them to only 9 points means a job well done by all segments of the D.

All in all, about what I expected, although the margin of victory was greater than what I thought it was going to be. Whether due to adjustments made by Dale or due to us wearing them down, we pretty well dominated them in the second half after their first drive of the second half. I don't recall them moving the ball at all after that drive.

As pointed out by others above, Guy is a very fine player and very talented athlete, although I thought we did a very good job in limiting his impact on the outcome of the game. Playing against athletes like those on Trotwood's team certainly helped prep us for playing against Guy.

Birds "enjoy" the bye week (although if Dale handles it like past years, your going to be doing a bunch and I mean a bunch of running and conditioning so I doubt there will be much enjoyment this week). Your just past the halfway mark to a 15-0 season. Keep focused and stay committed. You have what it takes to take the title. But there are a lot of teams chomping at the bit to prevent that from happening.

Sounds like LexCath will be a force to contend with in the 4A playoffs, and I'm glad to hear from LN that the 'Birds made the necessary in-game adjustments and dominated the game for most of the second-half.

As LN said, the team needs to really stay focused... they're only halfway to winning state this year (16 weeks and 15 games is a LONG stretch!!!).

OldCamel...Thanks very much for the detailed post.

Sounds like Highlands is their same old self. They brought their A game, especially in the 2nd half.
