It's too bad that teachers in this country are free to politically indoctrinate our school children. There is no excuse for allowing fictional works like Gore's movie to be used in a science curriculum. Thank you for posting the link.

I never said that it wasn't. Teachers in this country who show Gore's "documentary" as factual are engaging in political indoctrination. Global warming is not settled science and any teacher who misleads his or her students by claiming otherwise should be called on the carpet.

I don't want to wander too far off topic and debate evolution here, but the evidence supporting the evolution of life on this planet is much more compelling than the case being made for global warming. I think creationists who posit that the earth was created a few thousand years ago are treading on very shaky ground.

 

OTOH, there are large gaps in the fossil record and there are many details of evolution that will never be settled scientifically. Scientists cannot even agree on whether dinosaurs were warm or cold blooded (or both). IMO, evolutionary theory and intelligent design are not mutually exclusive theories.

I think that EVOLUTION - change over time - is virtually irrefutable - what may be unsettled is the origin of the species - BTW whenever most teachers talk about either one, they talk about the THEORY of it

The British government decided that it would be a good idea to send copies of Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth to all schools, with then Environment Secretary (now Foreign Secretary) David Miliband declaring that “the debate over science is over.”

 

A truck driver and school governor, Stuart Dimmock, took the government to court, alleging that the film portrays “partisan political views.”

 

In order for the film to be shown, the Government must first amend their Guidance Notes to Teachers to make clear that 1.) The Film is a political work and promotes only one side of the argument. 2.) If teachers present the Film without making this plain they may be in breach of section 406 of the Education Act 1996 and guilty of political indoctrination. 3.) Eleven inaccuracies have to be specifically drawn to the attention of school children.

Both evolution and global warming are scientific theory. The only problem is that there is substantially more scientific evidence supporting evolution, whereas the evidence supporting global warming is lacking and the theory is predominantly accepted as true based on airtime.

I'm not really that worried. I am all for conserving energy on an individual level but the amount of money that is spent (or Gore wants spent) on global warming is misuse. We don't need more government to protect us from this--sometimes I think that Gore pushes this so hard as just another route to one world government.
