For one thing, I think Trigg's offense is more explosive than Mayfield's ... and Calloway appears to have made some defensive improvement since the start of the season.

2nd play of game vs. Trigg was 65 yd CC TD that was incorrectly called back on illegal pass by out of position judge (TV replay clearly confirmed pass thrown from behind line of scrimmage). Game was still 35-34 with 4:00 left and CC with ball. Could easily have been different outcome.

 

Game vs. Marshall was coin toss. Pass interference end zone no-call (face guarding) on first drive was important. Lakers came up empty on that drive. Shakiest of the three calls in question.

 

Lone Oak win was earned by CC when they scored on Garner reverse with 3:00 left that was incorrectly called back on phantom hold. Flag tossed by out of position back judge (2nd varsity game) while side judge on the play tried to talk him into picking up the flag. Just ask the officiating crew and they will admit it. That would have salted the win for Lakers with a 2 TD lead.

 

Certainly other plays throughout all games can impact outcomes. All I said was the Lakers were 3 plays from being 6-0. That's still a true statement.

 

Hope Friday night's a good game for both teams and that neither team suffers injuries since important district and post-season games loom on the horizon. Do think the Lakers are improving with every game especially the defense. Hope the trend continues.

Bottom line ... you can gripe and moan about "blown calls" all you want ... Calloway lost those games for other reasons. You act like Calloway is the only team that has a questionable call go against them.

Mayfield brings to much to the table. I heard against Fulton Co. they ran the spread offense nearly the entire game. And everyone knows what Mayfield can do on the ground. Like i said no one hardly ever goes to War Memorial and wins expecially late in the season and it getting colder.

Yeah, the cooler weather only helps Mayfield and in the latter part of the season the team has adjusted and everybody knows what position they are good at. I know that the Mayfield 'D' is ready for this game, coach lawson said he was going to work the kids hard and he gave them all homework to take home and study. I am sure he is preparing them for what is probably the best passing team that Mayfield has faced thus far. I like that Mayfield gets to play a good passing team, helps us out in the playoffs.

hopefully its a bigger margin of victory than this......but Calloway seems to be no slouch this year. However, CC hasn't seen a defense even close to as good as Mayfield's....so I could possibly see Mayfield shutting them down. Also, Mayfield has answered the bell on every occasion this season as already noted, but no team is perfect and Mayfield could quite possibly have a bad game at some point this season, which is something we don't want to happen in the PLAYOFFS.

 

P.S. We used to scrimmage Calloway every season. The whole scrimmage they lined up in 4 wide and passed the ball, only we could NEVER hit their quarterback. Then, when he didn't find anyone open, he would run the ball and we would get yelled at by their coaching staff for hitting him (a very pointless scrimmage when a defense is restricted like that). This was towards the very end of Stonecipher's (sp?) tenure at Calloway. He never would play Mayfield, and their was always an unspoken beef. the two teams just didn' like each other. And I know they have a new coach, and Coach McKeel seems like a standup guy, but I just want Mayfield to get this one really bad. Just to make a point of which program, year in and year out, runs this region regardless of classification.

I think that their passing game may confuse us some but we have been pretty successful at getting at QB's all season and I don't see it changing in this game, and if they have to go to the run, well, thats been our specialty on defense.

With the film prep work that Coach Lawson puts in, you can see how far DB's Xavier Shelton, Gary Hall, and Tyrese Murrell have gotten so much better this year. There will not be a defensive unit MORE PREPARED to play tonight than the Mayfield Cardinals. Should be an interesting game and good luck to both squads!

I agree. I think their quarterback won't have time like he has had in other games to stand back there and chuck the ball. The Paducah Sun stats have Brockman with 10 picks in 6 games (that seems like a lot, so for some reason I think that might be wrong, but thats what the paper had). It sounds like he could get careless, especially when we are putting the heat on him. Mayfield will ride their bread-n-butter tonight with great defense, a solid-balanced rushing attack, and IMO the best kicking game in this region. The stats on Brockman are correct....80-138 1,277 yards with 14 TD's and 10 INT's
