Beechwood 38 Prestonsburg 21

No problem....

Beechwood EARNS a victory, and in the process reaffirms to me why they are the epitomy of a top class program. Tough situation playing this week on the road, on Saturday, in the middle of the day, a week after losing a heartbreaker, against a team they were expected to romp. Beechwood jumps out 14-0 to see Pburg storm back and tie the game at the half. Beechwood in impressive manner makes big adjustments and withstands another late Pburg rally.

Final score much closer than what the game really was. Pburg was trailing 24-21 in the 4th and driving, but a halfback pass was intercepted and returned for a TD. The enxt posession Pburg completes a pass to the endzone on 4th down, but the receiver was out of bounds. Soon thereafter Beechwood breaks a long run to set the final margin.

Thinsg that stuck out to me:

1. Beechwood seemingly made a huge adjustment to stuff the middle afetr halftime and force the Blackcats to pass the ball and force everything outside. very smart decision as the Tigers were able to utilize their speed.

2. Allen Craynon ran for over 100 yards in the first half for Pburg, but didn't touch the ball til the 4th quarter and probably only carried the ball 3 times the entire second half.

3. The announcers raved about #26 Davis for Beechwood on defense as he continually pressured the Blackcat QB, Davis also broke the long TD run that set the final margin.

4. Minus the big plays and points off turnovers, Pburg's defense did very well against Beechwood's run.

Bankamper didn't play did he??????????

He injured his knee against CCH and is out a few weeks.

Great effort from both parties, as a football fan you had to appreciate it....A couple of controversial no calls, but i'm not sure what happened, I'll have to watch the replay on TV to decide..

Tough win for Beechwood.

Tough loss for Prestonsburg.

I wish I would of known that before I picked Beechwood in my Pick 4...

I RARELY miss a Beechwood game in person. My work schedule kept me from this one.

Sounds like Beechwood lived up to being a second half team (I was worried from earlier reports) Also sounds like it was a great matchup. Hope to see you guys on a regular basis!

Nice job everybody! Looks like everyone got their money's worth :ylsuper:

Playing without Bankamper in the playoffs last year showed that the Beechies have multiple weapons. I think this was a very important win for the Beechwood season.

I agree. Especially after last weekend. Bankamper is definately a serious loss for our Tigers. However, one good thing about Beechwood football is that there is always a Tiger ready to go!

Yes Cody started at QB but didn't play defense. tough kid!!!!!

As EKU alluded, this was a very entertaining ballgame. I'll correct his one sentence (I think he said it backwards accidentally) - the game was much, MUCH closer than the score would indicate.

Once again, Prestonsburg played 6 and 7 man fronts. However, I can't criticize the staff for bringing in an extra DB this game. A Blackcat starting CB was out (in the hospital with an infection - what IS it with all these infections, anyway?!?) and Coach James tried to compensate.

The so-called "controversial play" (isn't there always one in a tight game?) happened when the Blackcats were driving in Beechwood territory at about the 5 min. mark of the 4th. Beechwood was up 24-21. P-burg ran a HB option. The pass was downfield about 15-20 yds. The Beechwood defender hooked the receiver while both were heading toward the ball. With the receiver's stride broken, another DB came up and intercepted taking it for a defensive TD. It could have legitimately been flagged interference, but...the officials had been allowing contact in the secondary (both ways) all day.

On the ensuing KO after the Tiger score, the Blackcat upback couldn't handle the bouncing squib-kick. Beechwood recovered. The scoring closed out with a nicely ran counter trap play up the middle. P-burg defenders had a shot at him, but were tackling the ball. Like a good RB should, he protected the ball and took it all the way from about the P-burg 35.

The play that really hurt P-burg was the QB fumble on their own 6 toward the end of the 3rd qtr. Although the Blackcats made a great goal line stand, the Tigers successfully came away with a FG. Being behind by those 3 pts., as the 4th quarter progressed forced P-burg out of its running game - possessions were becoming limited.

I enjoyed the game immensely. Hope I can make the game next year. THANKS to the coaches of both teams for making it happen !!!

I have to completely disagree with you on this. Pburg did not stop the run at all against Beechwood. Teipel for Beechwood probably had over 150 yards and 2 TD's. All running the ball. The reason why Pburg lost the game was because they couldn't stop the run. Beechwood's O-Line in the 1st , 3rd, and 4th quarter blew the Pburg line five yards off the ball. Yes, the score was 24-21; this was because of a deep pass for a touchdown in blown coverage. This game was close at a certain point but Beechwood was in control from the get go. Not once during the entire game was I woried that Beechwood would lose. In the first quarter Pburg's players were already winded and bending over and puking on the field. Beechwood was the much better team and showed it in the second half. Both teams played with class and both teams will do well in the rest of their seasons. Good Luck!!!

I admire the "confidence" in your team, even though the score was tied and Prestonsburg had the momentum going at halftime. ;)

In the first quarter Pburg's players were already winded and bending over and puking on the field.

Wow... ONE of our players took a shot in the stomach and threw up. How did you transfer that to all "Pburg's players". If what you said is true, then how did those tired, sick Blackcats outplay the Tigers in the 2nd qtr ?!? :sssh:

"Much better" ?!? Nope, I don't think so. But, we all have opinions. Good luck, Tigers...hope I can make the game next year up your way.

Compliments to both teams for an exciting game !! :thumb:

I agree, I think this really helps both teams. Hopefully it's a two year (or more) contract, if not, then it should be.
