Beechwood 38 Prestonsburg 21

Congrats to the Tigers and Coach Rash! Also, great job by Nieko Tiepel, showed speed and desire, something Beechwoods running game needed.

I have to completely disagree with you on this. Pburg did not stop the run at all against Beechwood. Teipel for Beechwood probably had over 150 yards and 2 TD's. All running the ball. The reason why Pburg lost the game was because they couldn't stop the run. Beechwood's O-Line in the 1st , 3rd, and 4th quarter blew the Pburg line five yards off the ball. Yes, the score was 24-21; this was because of a deep pass for a touchdown in blown coverage. This game was close at a certain point but Beechwood was in control from the get go. Not once during the entire game was I woried that Beechwood would lose. In the first quarter Pburg's players were already winded and bending over and puking on the field. Beechwood was the much better team and showed it in the second half. Both teams played with class and both teams will do well in the rest of their seasons. Good Luck!!!

If they were blowing them so far off the ball, then why did the majority of Beechwood's runs in the 2nd through 4th quarter go for 3 yards or less?Beechwood broke 3 or 4 long runs, but you can go back to my game updates which I picked up midway through the second quarter and see that Pburg certainly was holding their own against the run. If anything, it was Elliot's passing that Pburg struggled with it seemed.. between timely passing to keep the chains moving, excellent field position from turnovers, and big running plays that is how the Tigers were able to do the brunt of their damage.

I also won't buy the Blackcats being winded.... winded teams don't come back from 14-0 before the half to tie it up, and they certainly don't come back from 24-14 in the 4th Quarter to cut the lead to three and drive down the field.

As EKU alluded, this was a very entertaining ballgame. I'll correct his one sentence (I think he said it backwards accidentally) - the game was much, MUCH closer than the score would indicate.

HAHA, Yeah I am "Lysdexic" I think..

Oneijoe,

Did it surprise you that Pburg went so far away from the running game with Craynon after their success in the first half? I know it sounded that Beechwood made an adjustment to jam the middle, but Pburg never ran Craynon inside a single time in the second half to even probe that defense. They did try Setser to no evail a couple times, and then seemed to abandon all hopes of running between the tackles.

I'm sure you couldn't tell from the radio broadcast, but the bulk of Prestonsburg's ground yards came from simple toss sweeps around the end. Craynon had good blocking from Setzer and the pulling guard beating the Beechwood defense to the corners. The Tigers had good size and strength on the DL and at LB, but they were NOT fast.

The adjustment I saw Beechwood make in the second half was by the safeties. They started cheating up, playing the run 1st (something I wish OUR defense would do more often). The attempted HB pass was actually a very good call, IMO. On the play immediately before it, the safety on that side crashed on sweep. Coach ran the same play hoping the safety would come up again, but...the RB didn't sell "run" well enough to bring him up.

Bottom line... What really hurt us in not being able to take advantage in the 2nd half vs. Beechwood's sellout against our running game was having 2 inexperienced WR (you could almost see them count out their routes...LOL...our starters were out) that throttled our passing game.

I think the two starters were both out along w/Elliott not playing any D takes a lot of speed out of BHS total defense. P'burg had no answer for BHS #26. P'burg's #56 is a very good looking athlete. Any schools after him?

His name is Nathaniel Stephens (I think). Heard he's being recruited by a few schools. Excellent size and speed for a LB.

IMO, he'd have more chance to showcase his skills if we'd play our LB's a little further off the ball and used a minimum of 4 down lineman (at ALL times).

P-burg's defensive scheme plays the LB very close to the line. It has a tendency to get the LB's tangled up when the ball moves to a different hole. It's also why trap blocking works against our defense (TOO well on Saturday...LOL).
