You have to play district games every year--the only opponents that you can choose are your out of district opponents. That's why I didn't include district or playoff opponents.

You put the records of your competiton, maybe I didn't understand but the way I see it is, the competition could also be playing poor teams. I don't know but I'm done.

There is no doubt that Pulaski Co. and Southwestern are in a very competitive district and Somerset is in a very weak district. Southwestern always has the toughest schedule, but Somerset does play a good non district schedule every year.

2006 non district opponents regular season:

Franklin Co 8-2, Southwestern 7-3, Warren East 9-1, and Danville 9-1

I am not a big fan of Somerset or their schedule, but you still have to throw it and catch it, so give Cole his respect. The direction of this dialogue is a double edged sword. Yes they play in a weak district for a while, and yes they moved to this district for travel (which is what I think is being implied here) and yes they knew who was in this district when they moved ( which if we accept the travel as valid then SHS has to stipulate that this is valid as well). Now here are some things we need to keep in mind here. History and size are biggest thing that I see when I look at SHS. They are not the same program they were even 20 years ago, because of the county schools. there enrollment is down . County kids stayed home to play for their own schools. They are a legitimate small school doing the best they can with what they have. I congratulate Cole (and Hall) for the accomplishments of this year. They are well earned.

Yeah, I am going to down the competition. There is none! Somerset has not played anyone since Cobb has been there, and will not play anyone while he will be there. I agree 100% Cole is an outstanding football player or else he would not be committed to play football in the SEC.

Somerset will be ready to play when it comes down to it. Cobb knows how to prepare this team.

I am looking forward to the Somerset vs Corbin match up. There is such a great history between these two teams. This was the biggest district rivalry when I played. I am glad to see they are back on the schedule this year.

I still don't get it, SW has a brief but good football tradition. Everytime there is a Somerset thread the SW faithful come over in droves to make snide remarks and put down our coach, kids or program. You can bash SHS's schedule all you want, but when was the last time SHS lost to a lower ranked team in the playoffs? It has been quite a while. Can you say that?

 

Somerset only dresses about 25 or so kids no counting the freshmen. You can not go out every week and play knock down drag out games with those numbers. Somerset has shown over the past few years that they are willing to play strong teams out of district. Warren East, Danville, Corbin, Franklin Co and Metcalfe Co are all teams out of district that SHS has played or will play over the last couple of years. The SHS schedule looks to be as strong as any of the top 3A schools this year, as we have played 4 teams with winning records and beat two of them. Only one of the top 3A schools has a winning record against more winning teams this year.

 

SW fans support your team (sorry they aren't too good this year), turn it around in the playoffs? Quit worrying about the Somerset schedule, life is too short for you to fixate on our little ol' school.

They can't look in the mirror Jumper fans. With all of the hype, "tradition", money, etc. it is hard for them to believe that they're just not that good. SW fans and PC fans should be happy for the Jumpers when they don't play them directly. I still say that jealousy plays a big part in the threads they post. SW should be happy that they didn't have to play the Jumpers this year, it would be ugly. Let's hope that SW wins out and finishes strong as well as PC & Somerset. We're neighbors gang.

 

I do believe that the district SHS plays in is weaker than most but give them credit for how they play football. They have some outstanding talent for the size school they have. Cole is great but they have 4-5 kids who would start for either PC or SW if they were there so give them some kudos.
