Good to see Matt Thomas have another big game. As a realist, I don't see much progress in Ashland as a team. Beating winless Boyd County in overtime doesn't do a lot for the resume. Nonetheless, 1-5 is better than 0-6. The trip to Versailles could be a long one since Woodford County lost to Franklin County tonight.

Woodford was not as dominant tonight as they appeared to be against JC. No excuses on JC's part, they wasnt ready to play, and was dominanted for that. But I believe JC's lack luster performance made Woodford look alittle better than they were. The thing I saw tonight that helped Franklin with the win was putting pressure on Woodfords QB Duckworth and solid secondary coverage. There run game really isnt that effective so the key is putting pressure on the QB and throwing their timing off.

I agree. Midseason is a little late to change offensive schemes, I just think Ashland needs to find a way to utilize both Carter and Thomas.

 

 

Ashland has a formation that all three backs can be apart of the running attack, but it hasn't utilized that much yet because of the inconsistant line play.

 

Heck, with as many injuries as the Tomcats have had on the o-line this year you'll have less than stellar play from those guys just for the basic fact that there is a new unit playing every game. I believe that most, if not all, of the preseason line starters were dressed and ready to play tonight and that might have been the reason the line play was better this week. Now that's not to take anything away from the kids that played the first half of the season on the o-line. They've gained very vaulable playing experience that will be a huge asset in the future, if not this year then next for sure.

(IMO)The wishbone would be nice in the red zone with two lead backs blocking at the point of attack and work in a counter play .Boyd co did it tonight with power I and it worked well,but i think(IMO) it is to predictable with ball mostly going to the power side.

Best game I have seen all year. It was a shame that someone had to lose. I think these two teamsshould play once a month just for grins......How about that fans!!!! That wasa great atmosphere last night. Now they have thrown in the "Travelin trophy" that just spces things up a little. This game had the smell of the old rivalry these teams used to share back when....Congrats Tomcats.....keep your head up Lions......It ain't over yet.......stay focused!!!!

Jericho51 told me before the game started that he had had a dream in which either Thomas or Carter would set a rushing record. You called it! :thumb: Thomas did in fact move into second place for most yards rushing in a single game – moving in front of Beach (according to the post-game show). Do you have any stock picks that you would share with us???

Congratulations to the Tomcats. Thomas made a statement. Royalty looked good at QB. The O-ling played well.

 

Boyd Co. has a pretty good team. I don’t understand why they are winless. Keep your heads up. You can still make some noise in your district. Good luck in the rest of your season.

Now with this performance by Thomas this should make a point to keep him in the backfield. But I have heard alot about Thomas but with out that O-line Thoasm wouldnt have got all of these yards- so good job line.

Good win for Ashland, I think they may have found the right combination with Thomas in the RB position and Royalty at QB position. That, with the maturity of the OL/DL has put Ashland in the win column. Congratulations Ashland.

Did I happen to mention that he played for the Boyd County Panthers in JFL as well....Quite a few players making big plays from that team. Cody Plank, Bryant Combs and Steven Carver were all part of the Boyd County squad then and part of Ashland now. They are great kids along with the rest of the players still at Boyd, like the past starting RB's for the Panthers - Barker and Wilson. Steven Carver is probably about as good of a Center as I have coached along with Boyd's Sophomore Ethan Fultz and Boyd's Freshman Seth Hatfield. A lot of great memories from this bunch of kids from Boyd and Ashland.:thumb:
