How many tackles, TD's or plays did Dickie Martin have last night and which team, Russell or Ashland, does he play for.

 

I keep reading about him in this thread, so I'm presuming he was actually part of the game but I can't recall which number he was....

 

The Ashland program knows exactly what it gets with Dicky Martin in the booth on Friday nights. No one else in this area is such a lightning rod with there play-by-play. I for one enjoy it. It's refreshing. He's the first one to point out when the team and or coaching staff is not up to par. He's the first one to rip into an officiating crew that doesn't quite meet his standards. He also can go off on tangents just like last night regarding Bill H. It's classic Dicky.

Gopher I guess that I originally brought it (Martin's comments) up. I just thought that it was funny and wondered if anyone else had heard and/or what was said (I didn't hear all of it). I should have known it would have turned into a Russell fans bashing Martin thread:rolleyes::irked: . I apologize for asking the original question now:D :thumb: .

 

Hopefully this thread will go back to the game.

I have coached football for eleven years, played D-III(Dayton) and D-I (Ohio State)college football, and played since I was six years old in Ohio. There are several posters on here that I follow and read and Graybeard is one of them. His posts are mostly factual or dealing with insight into the games or what the teams need to improve on. That is why I read his posts. I have never read any posts by Graybeard stating he gives up on Ashland or badmouthing the coaches etc. Keep up your posts Graybeard I thoroughly enjoy reading your comments. By the way, I am like Switzerland and neutral when it comes to Ashland, I have no affiliation to Ashland. But my son has played against you in the past. And for what it is worth you do have an excellent coach and coaching staff.:thumb:

You seem to have some sort of issue with all Russell fans and I take offense to that. I just think that if he has a problem with the assigning secretary then he should address it with the proper individuals and not broadcast it over the airwaves. Plus he really should check his microphone during breaks....:sssh:

I don't have an issue with all Russell fans. I agree with you about him needing to check his michrophone, I didn't hear the comment that you were referring to.

Ryan Bonner was definitely a bright spot last night. He FINALLY was involved in Ashland's passing game. We will need big plays from him down the stretch! It was also nice to see Jeremy Nethercut back and contributing!

 

 

Bonner is a beast! How tall is that kid? The first pass to him I thought was way overthrown only for him to jump up and grab it. He is a tremendous asset to the tomcats.

 

the kids chasing the tomcat was indeed priceless. My hats off to the tomcat for participating in this in a positive manner. (7 and 8 year old kids, which they appeared will never remember this game or the score, but for their entire life remember chasing the tomcat)

 

 

I have seen Tyler Jones play for years and am more impressed every time I see him, one word... STUD.

 

McGlone and Hart will have plenty of things to work on Monday. While it was a great game and the kids played their hearts out, there were alot of mistakes. For starters, if you want to win on the carpey, you cannot commit useless 15 yard penalities.

 

Officiating was excellently done. My hats off to the crew.

 

High school football, its the whole reason we have Friday nights!

I was excited to see the Tomcats show some signs of life. They looked excited to play and it showed in their performance. Matt Thomas, Ryan Bonner, and Rashard Carter were all over the field on both sides of the ball. Ashland should have some more members of the O-line back next week. 3 out of 5 were still out tonight. Hopefully that will help things turn around. I was also disappointed with the turnout by the Ashland fans. I believe that if you go to all the games when you have a "good" team then it is your duty to support your team through tough times. For better or worse, in sickness and in health. There is nothing worse than a fair weather fan. I left this game tonight feeling proud of the performance by my Tomcats, win or lose.

My thoughts of the game ... I'm glad I was there and I say shame on those Ashland fans that weren't. When we start winning, don't start showing up! I admit I have been a bit discouraged this season and certainly have not always agreed with the coaching decisions but I know these kids work hard year round. I"ve watched them practicing this summer in full pads in temperatures 90-100 degrees. So yeah, I think they deserve our support, through the bad times as well as the good. And, where was the band???? I heard someone say they had a competition today, but I would think a priority would be to be at a big rivalry game such as the Ashland-Russell game. I was extremely disappointed that they didn't even send a pep band! The Cats played with enthusiam and those fans that were there were really into the game as well. Once again, our student section was GREAT!!! My final comment is that Greybeard is a class act. He always gives an honest opinion and gives credit where credit is due. He knows Ashland football better than most and you won't be at many (if any) Ashland practices without seeing him there. Hang in there Cats and keep improving. I STILL BELIEVE!!!:ylsuper:

Boyd is no match for Ashland, getting beat as bad as they did by PC..................

 

Be careful about hanging your hat on that logic. Pike Central isn't so bad this year, believe it or not.

As a fan of another team I can tell that I appreciate this post and your opinons. All fans of All teams could learn from this one. All of these posts about fair weather fans brought to mind a comment made to me a couple of weeks ago by a longtime Rose Hill fan. It has nothing to do with the game last night but it ties into the fair weather fan angle and I think some of you will get a laugh out of it.

 

I told the fan that I intended to go to some Rose Hill games this year to see Euton and Jackson play. His response was to ask me if I was allergic to moth balls. I asked him why. His response was that, now that Rose Hill is on the rise again, many of those fans who left with Mayo would be taking their Rose Hill sweatshirts out of storage and would be back in the stands. Thus, a strong possiblilty of the scent of moth balls.

 

I think that the analogy can be made in regard to many fans who like to board the bandwagon in good times but are never around in lesser times.

Basically the thing that I meant was that AShland fans tend to post and inquire about the games aslong as Ashland plays well. By the way I have be around alot longer than Greybeard and will be after he is gone. You know how some fans have to be fans because of some sort of ties and is unable to post their true feelings for fear of repercutions(?) for themselves or other family members. I am not refering to any single person on this site but usually a general rule people go by to avoid conflict. An example or what I am saying is that I m not going to post anything negative about a program or a coach if my son/daughter plays for that team or my dad is the principal.

Ok enough about Dicky for a few threads please I would like to know how Tyler Jones is and if anybody else got hurt if so hope it is not to bad.

I too would like to know how tyler is doing if anyone knows. I think coach McGlone should set him this Friday night when they come to East ..... just as a precautionary measure. ;) ....:lol: :lol: :lol:
