Dont you think that its funny that after a good showing from Ashland that the fans start to get back on hear. Where was you at last week Greybeard.....

 

Graybeard has NEVER left this program and these Tomcats. He is by far one of the classest men that I have ever had the privilige to meet and someone I look at as a friend. Its funny to me that you know consider yourself a citizen of Ashland and not "used to be tomcats but now are kitty cats." Graybeard doesnt even need to respond to this obsurd comment but I feel as a friend offended by this post so thats why Im responding. Graybeard has been with Ashland through the good and the bad on this website and always gives credit where credit is due. Its comments like yours that give Ashland the black eye from many outsiders. Luckily, I have had the privilige to meet Graybeard, and hope to soon meet LRCW, so I dont judge Ashland as a whole from comments like these.

And it was all brought up by a fan from a school other than Russell or Ashland.

Great game! This Ashland team played with a whole lot more intensity than last week against Ironton. The rivalry obviously still is strong at least for the students and players, if not the fans. I was not really surprised by the low Ashland turnout. There just does not seem to be the same fervor over Tomcat football this season. I was really impressed with the Bonner kid. He changed the complexion of the game along with Thomas in the backfield. I thought they should have gone to Bonner more than they did. However, Morris must have made adjustments because our coverage was much better in the second half. Dicky's mike was on much during the dead air breaks and he obviously didn't realize it. He made several comments about the the center missing the snap counts. At one point he said it was just "#%@!" poor coaching to have it happen in the fourth week of the season. Russell showed a lot of confidence on that last drive. All in all, it was a very good test for this team and it will pay dividends later in the season when we need to come back to win a game. Hope Mitchell shakes off the fumble. I think Ivan had him on ice for most of the game after that incident. The one thing Ivan can't stand is a fumble - always protect the football, period. Kicking game was great as Dolly seems to be getting comfortable back there.

Cmon now. These type of comments are completely uncalled for. This is a nice discussion about a great game, just keep it at that.

Graybeard has been on here long before you came around, and I'm sure he'll be around for a long time. He's as big as fan as you'll find, and he's as classy a Tomcat fan you'll find, win or lose. And Graybeard was at the game last night, unlike some people. And to set the record straight, Graybeard was right here on BGP posting after last week's game as the post below proves.

I agree #36 (Murphy) was a brute – he was a difference maker. I also think that the 2 TDs that Ironton scored in the last 26 seconds of the first half changed the whole complexion of the game. Instead of going into the locker room at half-time tied at 0-0 we gave up 2 quick (and very strange) TDs. Ironton really seemed to gain confidence in the second half with 2 scores on the board.

 

Ashland’s O-line gets younger and more inexperienced every week due to injuries. Three of our biggest linemen are on the sidelines: Salisbury, Pennington and Walker. Hopefully they can return soon.

 

As someone else said earlier, all we can do is go back to work on Monday.

You seem to have some sort of issue with all Russell fans and I take offense to that. I just think that if he has a problem with the assigning secretary then he should address it with the proper individuals and not broadcast it over the airwaves. Plus he really should check his microphone during breaks....:sssh:

People should remember that Martin is a partisan commentator and not a reporter. He does not hide the fact that he favors Ashland. He does not pretend to be objective. He isn't objective. He isn't always honest. He is a spinner for his team. His favorite targets seem to be Russell, Boyd County, and Rose Hill. As a result of his slanted tirades against these three schools, he surely should have no friends at any of the three of them. Nonetheless, when you accept the obvious, you still must admit that he is the best, although far from the fairest, announcer on local radio. He is entertaining but sometimes he makes it very easy for a neutral fan to root against Ashland.

Good points. However, it all demonstrates why he is so effective.

I disagree. The airwaves is where he has the right to voice opinion, (Free Speech). Now the question should be "He should NOT voice his opinion during a football game". He should have a open call in show after the game or during the week to discuss his issue.

 

As for the assigning secretary; I know Bill, and he is a class guy. Every game I remember him doing when I was in school or after he was fair.

I understand and Martin is well known, liked by some and not by others.....But we had a very good game played last night and these player, coaches and fans deserve to here that topic being discussed and not the radio announcer.

I have coached football for eleven years, played D-III(Dayton) and D-I (Ohio State)college football, and played since I was six years old in Ohio. There are several posters on here that I follow and read and Graybeard is one of them. His posts are mostly factual or dealing with insight into the games or what the teams need to improve on. That is why I read his posts. I have never read any posts by Graybeard stating he gives up on Ashland or badmouthing the coaches etc. Keep up your posts Graybeard I thoroughly enjoy reading your comments. By the way, I am like Switzerland and neutral when it comes to Ashland, I have no affiliation to Ashland. But my son has played against you in the past. And for what it is worth you do have an excellent coach and coaching staff.:thumb:
