Mike Yeagle to take a leave of absence

Featured Replies

My first thought was Lloyd must be traveling down state for the next two weeks, and as Yeagle has before, "can't" travel with the team due to something. However, their next two games are at home. Maybe there is something more wrong with him than anyone on here really knows.

Question, What would be the prevailing opinion if this was another coach? Do you think people would be as quick to excuse another coach from fulfilling his responsibilities?

Yeah because a football game is so much more important than your health.

Did you not read what I posted? This is not the first time this has happened. Some times it seems like Yeagle shows up to coach when he wants. I'm not buying it. If it were the first time then yes I would but it is not.

Ok so someone can't have more than one health issue over a span of a few years? Or they can't have reoccurring health issues? I agree with some others on here and thing people should just give him some slack, wait it out and see what happens.

Since you don't think this all is health related then what do you think it is?

TRUST ME!!!!! If you knew Yeagle you know he wouldn't just "show up when he wants to".

Coach Yeagle has reasons and they are his. I'm sure those who need to know, have been made aware. His personal life and reasons, shouldn't be our focus but if he needs time off, then he should receive the support of those around him.

He has taken a leave before, back in 2003 (from an article)..."At the time," he said, "I had no choice. I was that ill. I had to take care of myself. I had to get back to things that are important in life. I just had to let go." Things had been building inside the coveted coach for some time. They were private things and public things that Yeagle chooses not to talk about.

Some reports have Yeagle, putting in countless hours of preparation and film study....(from same article) it was nothing for Yeagle to be studying film at 2 a.m.

We all can speculate and assume, but reality says something is wrong and he made a choice. Hopefully his assistants will continue and once ready, he can return to the sideline.

Yes I read exactly what you posted. Who are you, or anyone else to question the mental and physical well being of another individaul. You should be thankful for your health, and the health of your loved ones. To question some one else's health is way beyond something I would ever dare do.

I'm pretty sure that's not what he was saying.

I could be wrong...

I don't know how else to interpret what he was saying.

With his recent history, it looks like Coach Yeagle came back prematurely. There's nothing wrong with that, but I believe that it would be in the teams best interest to at least have an idea of what is wrong. It is their right to know, seeing as they need to be able to put their trust in him. Me...if I never know, then that is fine b/c its none of my business. I just hope that his team is not in the dark.

I agree 100%

I completely understand your point but I'll disagree slightly with you. Players don't have to be made aware of the intentions and reasons, a coach makes.

As a staff, decisions on playing time, positions, play calling and when to go/not to go, are done and they aren't explained to the players. Student-athletes need to respect the coach and give their 110%, which can be done without liking the coach.

I don't know the coach/player relationship, Coach Yeagle or his reasons but what I do know is, not many of us get to be in a coaching position. With all that is required and comes along with, it can be endless hours, which can take a toll on many aspects of our life.

Everyone knows someone with issues and as a former HR person I dealt with many employees who had health problems. I don't know what others did, but so long as they were working on solving the problem, I and the company would work with them. If they denied the problem or ignored it and left others to deal with it, they were subject to discipline just as if the act was willful. Sympathey, help and medical and financial support are usually there for those who want to take advantage of it. Those who do not cannot be tolerated forever. I don't have knowledge of Coach Yeagle's personal situation, however, as a Beechwood supporter, I wish him well with whatever problem he has.

I understand that, but for me as a player, I appreciated knowing why the player in front of me was starting and not me. I appreciated knowing what I had to do to get moved up. I appreciated just knowing what I had to work towards. It made me more focused and I worked towards a goal, rather than toiling aimlessly. In the same token, I believe that, for continuities sake, the players should know if Yeagle will be there after these two weeks. They should know why their coach is missing multiple games so that they aren't kept in limbo. Miss one game, questions are asked, but it blows over. Missing two weeeks of school with no certainty for the future...it would weigh on my mind as a player.

This thread should have been ended before it got started. Yes, he is in the public eye but his personal life should not be. He is not a big time college coach nor a professional coach where the general public is on a know everything basis.

He has taken a 2 week leave due to health issues and that is and should be good enough for the general public. Maybe the team should know exactly what is going on but then again maybe Mike is concerned about their mental look on things also. I am sure most of these players have become very fond of Mike and they probably don't need to know everything as it could mentally wear on them also.

I understand but as a player, you can only control yourself and not what goes on around you, others assignments and whom will be coaching.

Task at hand, is too focus on your job and prepare for the opponent, regardless whom the leader is. Would communication to the players, make a difference in their preparation for the game.

Yeagle has probably let some know, what the reason is.

Hoping for a speedy recovery. I agree it has nothing to do with not winning...give Coach Yeagle a break. I would love to see the boys win both games for him in his absence.
