Beechwood 46 Dayton 7

Featured Replies

Well I have a pretty big problem with the part I bolded in your little note here...Dont get me wrong I am not a Dayton fan at all, and actually have been arguing with them for the last 2 weeks telling them that they WOULD NOT PLAY WITH BEECHWOOD...

However you say that your going to have to face reality that your just a average 1A squad, and cant play at the level of Beechwood. That is a big problem for me because you make it sound like its impossible too. When that is not true at all, yeah usually the 3 little river schools are not going to be able to compete with Beechwood every year. However those schools every now and then do get a great group of kids together that can play with Beechwood. So definitely dont make it sound like these schools can never compete with Beechwood cause that is not true.. This year that is the case, but it is not like the all the time...

I will agree on only one partial aspect of your comment : Beechwood has good years and fair years (for Beechwood) ! But since these young men were 6 or7 years old (Playing for the Spartans) I can never remember them ever getting beat by a Dayton team. Note: I haven't missed a Spartans vs. Dayton, or a Beechwood vs. Dayton game in 11 years.

I believe that the reason Beechwood has so much success for a 1A school with only aproximately 70 kids in their senior class (Male & Female).

Is:

They grow up together, go to school together and play football together from the time they are 6 or 7 years old. (For those of you who don't realize it, Beechwood is a K-12 school) With just a couple of exceptions, I know that the juniors & seniors have been together that long.

They don't strive to Win, they Expect to Win !!

This senior class at Dayton lost to Beechwood by one touchdown there freshmen year. Just to get that out there.

Dear Surf Fisherman

It is obvious that you haven't seen the river schools play against anyone but Beechwood.

If you have seen other games this season, you would realize, that Dayton came out flat, and not ready to play. The game could have been closer.

I was at the game. It was ugly, but they played bad against a good team, and that is what happens. You won't convince me that the game couldn't have been closer had Dayton played a game they are capable of, because I know they are capable of better.

I'm not saying Dayton should have won, or is a better team, I'm saying that they could have played with them, and made it a game.

They were beaten mostly from the first play to the last, because they were beat by themselves before they took the field, beaten by a mindset. But there was a 6 minute burst in the 2nd quarter that showed what they could've been doing. They played bad, but they could've played better.

If they play in the playoffs, and Dayton comes wit the same mindset and everyone doesn't decide that Beechwood is a good team but not unbeatable, then they will get beat handily again. But if they come ready to play, they can make a game of it. Watch them more than once a year and you will see that they are above average.

Note: If you think that Beechwood played just as good against Lloyd as they did Dayton, we watched a couple different games. I saw both, and Beechwood made a lot more mistakes a frankly played less "crisp" of a game against Lloyd. The Dayton Lloyd game should be a good one. Remember, last year everyone had Lloyd as a TD or 2 favorite in that game too, and they got beat by 20...

ESONGUY,

Dayton looked flat because they were way over matched. Could they have done better ? I would hope so ! But as you said, "It was their mindset", and there lies your problem. These same guys have beat them since they were very young boys and deep down, they know what's coming.

Maybe some day a Stud will move into the Dayton School District and they will give us a battle, but I don't see that happening anytime soon. At least not this year or next year. Contrary to what you might think, we don't like lopsided victories either.

I will say one thing about the Dayton team this year. "They played with class, even in defeat". There wasn't the trash talking and cheap shots that I have witnessed in past years.

You are unbelievable! For the record, there's no more "trash talking" from Dayton year in and year out than any other team, and if you say it don't happen with your team and occassionally all HS football teams, you seriously lack good judgement. Be happy with a very good Beechwood team this year and quit degrading the other schools that work just as hard, but don't have the horses. By the way, I've been to a few B-wood basketball games the past few years and there's considerable trash talk from the Tigers and their fans in the corner. Does that only happen on the court, and not on the field? I THINK NOT!!!!!!!!!!:irked:

For a period of time there that was not true. Dayton there for awhile said more stuff, and played more dirty than any other team. Everyone who played against them knows this...However ever since Coach Lickert took over he started to change that, and made it not only a better program by wins and losses, but by also how they play the game on the field. And now it seems like the new coach has just continued with where Coach Lickert left off...:thumb:

Dear Dayton Fans,

I appreciate that you support and root for your team, but one of these years you are going to have to face reality.

Your team is an average 1A squad ,that is not any where close to playing at the level that Beechwood does.

If you were at the game, you would realize what I say is a fact.

Beechwood could have scored 80 points against Dayton if they wanted to.

As far as I could see in that game, Dayton was totally beaten from the first play to the last. If they have to play us again in the playoffs, it will be just more of the same.

Note: I have no doubt that Loyd will beat Dayton by at least 20 pts.

"It is, What it is"

If you beat a team soundly...shake their hands like men, tell them nice game, and good luck the rest of the season...leave the trashtalking alone!!!

Here's a suggestion for everyone....We can get back on the topic of discussing the Beechwood and Dayton game, or we can start bagging and tagging the offenders.

Rule #2

2. No disparaging, taunting, or boastful comments--especially between opponents trying to intimidate each other. This includes name calling or personal attacks toward any member, username, or school. Simply not true.......Lickert did good things, as is Deaton, but pre-Lickert wasn't simply a free for all. Coach Smith had discipline as did many other coaches at Dayton. As I've ststed before, every school has their "moments" or "seasons" where they may act up. Even the other class A schools have had their years:rolleyes:

Well lets see I played against Dayton for 4 straight years before Lickert showed up after my senior season. And well Dayton was definitely the dirtiest team I ever play against. I think it has been pretty well known around NKY as well, because I have seen so many comments over the last few years from when people have seen Dayton now, and comment on how they do play with more class now and are not dirty anymore. I know my senior season they did many dirty things, including something they did to me that I wont mention on here. They ended up having I believe 5 people even thrown out of that game. So yeah Dayton definitely was not doing to go good before Lickert showed up...

I guess we ignored Post #52....
